  1. Weez... nice choice in your plan for your shoebox. It is one of my alltime favorite shoeboxes and a Cad mill will just be perfect.

8BA flathead ,offenhauser heads, dual carbs,C4 tranny, whole thing rebuilt, aluminum rad, electronic ignition and does 75 on the freeway all day. Saying a shoebox is to much for a flathead is a load of crap and a stupid statement

350 Chevy with the obvious dual quads, Comp Cam, PerTronix ignition hidden inside of a Mallory dual point dizzy, stainless steel block hugger headers and a full custom exhaust system...

Soon to be on the road, like next week......

    -270" 8BA Ford Flathead
    -4" Merc crank
    -Dual Stromberg 97's
    -Offenhauser intake
    -Offenhauser Heads; 8,6:1 compression ratio
    -Isky 77b camshaft
    -Improved breathing, 1,6" valves
    -Mallory Dual Point Ignition
    -Modern Borg & Beck clutch
    -Red's Headers "steel"

Runs like a steady train on the highway and sounds like a old timey boat when running on third gear through the neighborhood with lots of power to spare.

Mine has the less popular option. SBC, but it looks good.

Squash that fly........that's a cool pic, and I love the hemi in that lavender car. Mine still has the stock flat motor. I've got the normal hop up parts but just can't bring myself to crack the stocker open. It's such a sweet little mill. After I got it running good it's been a reliable, keeps up with traffic, and economical engine. I've also got a Merc v8 that I was going to rebuild and throw in there but I haven't gotten around to that either. So it's just a spider apartment now.

How about an original flat six with 3/4 cam, two carbs, electronic ignition, split manifold and a Knudsen aluminum head? Cruise at 70 all day with stock 3 speed and 3.54 gears.

Ever try finding one of these heads....I've ony seen one and the guy wanted big bucks for it...I was told the reason he took it off was that it didn't run right with it on....plus you might want to go 75 or 80 if your on Interstate 5....
Mine is a 6 also, but, I have a 327 waiting in the wings...I really didn't want to use it (you know ...the SBC stigma thing) but I got to thinking that if this was 1959 I would have put a SBC in it in a "New York Minute"...! I will just dress it as a "283" with no billet anywhere so it looks like I just got it out of the junkyard, cleaned it up and slaped it in....I WILL be able to drive 75 or 80....Oh...the Caddy with the Hydromatic is a good choice too....Had a 53 Merc in High School with a Caddy...

I think the brand was *5 Star*........I got lucky with them since I took a shot on eBay and got them for $99 with $30 shipping.......$129 bucks was a great price and they are really good quality....the polish on them is really nice and they do hug the block like they're supposed to.......my cousin helped me weld mild steel exhaust pipes to join to the stainless collector........used some special kind of stick welder with a special rod.....wasn't a TIG......but worked really well....

I love them.....cleared the steering box by about 18" !!

I have major problems with space for the exhaust manifolds. I used to have exhaust manifolds from a 265 sbc. They got broke.

Its super thight to the steering box. A friend of mine shortened the exhaust manifold on the ones im using now. but its tight ! I can put a pic up later. If you guys dont understand my crappy english !

    Alright, one more:

My '49 has a flatty, 2x2 Super with 94s, modern ignition, and original Fentons. Anyone who doesn't know engines wouldn't suspect it was only about 100 horses and change.

    Amen, Brother!

327/Saginaw...makes sense with the S10 clip in my car.
In my mind (dreams); Y-block or Cad, but this particular car will probably always be small blocked.
