In my search for more period stuff, does anyone know who might sell or supply the clear or various metallic/clear plug wires and terminals? Also anyone have pics of vintage fuel line setups and or old school wires / looms??? Shooting for 58-64 era...times were changing after 62-3...comments??? Thanks!!!
Rusty, I think "Speedway Motors" in Neb.sells wire and fuel lines like that.We called em"see your fire wires",from an Honest Charley ad. glider.
from my experience the red clear wires caused more problems then the "cool" factor they had. Also be careful that clear fuel line is not the safest way to go ... Just my 2 cents...
for the old clear fuel line look and safety run steel tubing inside the clear line .I've seen this done on a car with the clear red line and it was hard to tell it wasn't just the vynal gas hose!the guy flared the line tight to the end of the gas hose and then put hose clamps on the ends of the red tubing and it looked real good. Other than the tubing didn't have a lot of sag in it you couldn't tell the steel line was inside it without really looking close !
This is my Caddy motor,,,Its running the clear wires and Rajah tips I also have Eelco terminals on my Distro...As for the Fuel like the red ****s it drys out and leaks definatly run Br*** or stainless,, I got a roll of clear wires from my frined Dave Shutton who built the mysterion clone...the wire comes up on ebay from time to time but can be a bit pricee...Speddway sells Rajah terminals for 13 bucks..
I posted this before, if you go to a decent heating supply store( for boilers & furnances) you can get "rajah" type spark plug ends, they have angle & straight & there not that much. They also sell a decent plug wire in black red, but not clear. Its solid core wire jimV
My memory is that performance oriented rods of this period usually had Packard 440 plug wires or equivalent high quality solid conductor wires from Belden or Standard. 440 was the famous brand, numbers as well known as "97". OEM wires were oft carbon radio suppression stuff with a reputation nearly as bad as those clear wires. Clear wires were more for dressed up custom engines and never survived long there...a few months and a drive in the rain, and people changed them out. Rajah terminals were beginning to be retro at this time, fitting visually better on early bodied rods and not on the '49 Ford and '55 Chevy type cars that were dominant in the street hot car scene. These would have used OEM type rubber booted ends.
Ive posted these pictures before, but if I can save you some grief Ill post them again. This is what can happen with the cool clear red fuel lines. The Hot Rod Company sells a red braided fuel line, check them out http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=AF4225
