Been searching on the Hamb a bit as I'm looking to swap out the stock driveline in my 50 Styleline for a more cruiser friendly setup (SBC/OD auto/open rear). Was curious if there is a listing of compatible rear end donors as a quick resource? I'm not looking to modify the body, so I'm just hoping to find out which donor rears have useable width rears. Thanks all!
Early Nova, Camaro, 4X4 S-10. There are more but the Nova rear is what I've used. They came with 308s but I swapped to 373 ring and pinion.
We put a 4x4 S10 rear in a '54; while another friend used a '57 Chev rear my son had laying around in his '50. Both rears are about the same width.
56-57 Chevs are perfect. Just drill a new centering hole on the spring mounts to center the axle in the wheel opening.
I have been running a 56 Chev car rearend on stock springs in my 51 (Canadian Pontiac Fleetleader, basically a Chev Fleetline) for about 45 years. As mentioned, need to redrill centrebolt hole, new u-bolts.
Just remember 98+ S10 4wd got rear disc the won't clear the frame. Can still use the rear end but you have to move the bracket for backing plates and swap to drum brakes
yup. 55 56 and 57 chev rear end is a direct bolt in with the only needed modification is to redrill the ctr bolt hole. The width and perch width are the same. Keep in mind that if your torque tube rear is from a powerglide car and has the 3.55 gears that it is highly sought after so do not s**** it....
