50's Period correct customs

I built this "J" in 59,by 62 I got in some mags.;

If you just saw a lowered car, how would you know if it had bags or something else holding it up?

Yeah, what's this got to do wid CUSTOMS ? In 1955, I hitch Hiked 16 miles into Charleston, S.C., to The Ford Dlr'ship, TO SEE THE "NEW, 55 T-Bird ". Saw the Chrsler Experimental Car, in C'town.......Had Carpet about 3 inches Deep !!
Rode to school in Hudson Terraplane, or friends Dads Car, Pontiac ('47) fastback, Put Custom Grille in my Dad's '54 Ford.......tried to get Him To Lower IT ! Watched Guys just bach from "The Service", Wring out thier '49- '50 Forts and either get thier Drive Shafts bouncing down tha' street / Or, Cleanin' the Teeth off Second Gear !!!!
Grew up on Plymouth Fury's, Merc Turnpike Cruisers, '40 Fords, an, Olds....Rocket "88's "
"Little Pagers ", Roddin' & restylin'........Rod & Custom.......Hot Rod, Magazines were the only out let 'Til 1957........an my Fetish started to git fed.

I was crusing back in that era with my 50 merc thats in my avatar only
different was that I had a Corvette Grill and all the Door Handles were
off, Loud Pipes duel Spots & a front Rake, I ran 850X15 in the Rear
& 710X15 in the Front, had a C&T Stroker in the Flat Head
that ran like a ****d ape.!
most of the Kustoms in my area were in Prime very few cars were Painted
that was in NYC back in the Day

 

Good idea....a thread to compliment the 48-52 kustom era thread with one that covers style changes as they moved through the 50's.

I personally think the 48-52 style actually went till like 53 or 54 but thats just me.Even though the 48-52.thread is my favorite...I think 1952 is actually cutting it off a little short.

Many here don't like the 50's style custom. It's either late 40's/very early 50's style or nothing. I like both in their own way.

 

I'll even throw my own Mercury in here...

 

I'd like to see this thread expand some
