  1. Shane , that's some nice vision you have going on there . Once welded in and primed/painted it will look very custom kool. Stay at it man little by little you'll own it . Andy..

    Thanks andy.
Not my vision exclusively. I was influenced by Rick Dore's Style.

Posted this on the main board too...

On my current project I am using ppg jp377 epoxy primer and jp202 surfacer.
No problems so far. I have followed the instructions to the t. Noting the tech data sheets and advice from the paint shop And of course the hamb.
However the jp377 has been on for over 6 months.
TDS says scuff and reapply after 3 days.

Im close to ready to topcoat
With ppg concept single stage gloss black but have a few minor lows That need surfacer.

    Heres the question;

Scuff and sealcoat entire car then fill small areas with surfacer. (MAY TAKE MORE THAN 3 DAYS AGAIN)

Or can I scuff and spot in lows with jp 202 then seal entire car with jp377

Or scuff then do whole car in jp202 surfacer, guide coat
    And block everthing again.

I have tried a few tests spots with just scuffing and spotting jp202 in with good adhesion for 4 weeks.
But for long term with a topcoat I am skeptical.

Also any pre cleaning sugestions are welcome

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not an expert on paint but I believe the 3 days are to re-coat without scuffing. If you scuff the area to promote adhesion it should be fine.

    Great project !

    From the main board

I have always wet sanded the whole car with 400 paper and recoated with Epoxy and then within 8 hours, reapply the Fill Primer.
The 3 day rule is very important because the Epoxy "closes up" by the 72 hour "window". You never want to mess with Epoxy that is outside the window. IF the whole car is JP202, you can sand the whole thing, spot fill with a glaze and just spot in the low areas that you reworked with JP 202. After you are Happy with everything,
sand to 600 (dry), seal and paint.

    Good Luck,

    VR&C.

Still may do some more body mods. But got the itch to paint the roof.
Ended up doing it twice of course. First time I had some gun and compressor trouble. Another epic fail.
Dry spray and striping..bugs and water fisheyes
Just 2 coats.about a pint of material. A good test none the less
Using ppg concept single stage 9300 black.
    Sanded it back down.
Did a bunch of work on my air supply system adding drops and water traps. Piggy backed another compressor. And went from a 1.2 to a 1.4 needle on my gun.
    Then the magic happened.
    More experimenting too.
Laid down two coats of straight black. Then a coat
    75% black with 25% clear .
Followed by two more at 50% black and 50% clear.
Man you got see the difference.
Deep black with lots of depth.
Still got nibs bugs and fisheyes. But I love to color sand and buff. Came back with 3m trizact 1k up to 5k wet then a 3 step foam pad buff with 3m perfect-it.
No amber award winner but better or equal to a production shop repair

Content with the paint on the. roof and a deadline for september, im going to skip adding scoops in the hood and full cruiser skirts. Maybe next year.
Moving forward with black paint on the rest of the body. I was considering a two tone scheme with a teal green metallic or a semi gloss black. Just because im afraid of waves in the side panels.
    And some lazyness.
Spent a lot of time studying the body I think its close enough. Wetting it with wax and grease remover. Getting a temporary shine and looking from all angles ill find some dings and minor lows but not much more.
full gloss black it will be.
So I taped of the roof. Sanded the epoxy primer with 180. Reapplied a solid seal coat of jp 377 epoxy.
Waited an hour the came back with 3 coats of jp202. quick blocked with 220 then two more coats. I ll let it shrink for 3 or 4 days the block with 400 . Seal again then black.

    Block party.
    400 on the long board.

3m dry guide coat doesnt lie. I will never use spray again. Way better than the sem spray. really gets the details nice.
    Body is real close
    Really straight
Gonna need another round of surfacer for those little things.

I may have missed it earlier, is the entire car going to be gloss black?

    Thanks

If i did it again ...
I would build a tray for the back glass and drop it down and in. I considered this method, but was too concerned with structuaral
    Issues. And extra labor.

If you have the smaller backlight it wont be an issue

Other than that its a straightforward chop

im sure I'll never do a 51 again
    But a 49 maybe..
