Car is running tip top. Driving is good however I have a slight float/shift in the rear when letting off throttle. I suspect bad leaf spring shackle bushings. That being said, I have conflicting information on the sizes of bushings I need. Energy Suspension has bushings for a 53-54 Bel-Air. I called to verify dimensions only to be told that the info was proprietary and couldn't give it to me SMDH. Rock Auto lists two different bushings with two very different sets of dimensions. Can someone help me out with some knowledge of bushings and/or more modern leafs that will work?

    Thanks,

    Cody

You may need to go out and physically measure your existing leaf spring shackle pins. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to take a peek under there and see what condition the bushings are in if you haven't already, too.

If you click on the "Info" ****on on each Rockauto listing, it'll (usually) give you the specs-- I.D., O.D., etc., so you can cross check with your existing bushings if possible.

What series is your '51? I chose 61 for this, but there are a few other vehicles which use the same bushings, so you should be able to cross reference with a few dimensions on hand. Rockauto sells Energy Suspension and Prothane (I think) parts, too, so arm yourself with the part number you need (or think you need) and use the Rockauto "Part Number Search" tab at the top to see the specs.

Series 62. Yes I have chosen both 61 and 62 on Rockauto and they list two different bushings. One from Dorman and one from AcDelco. Both are different. Neither ES or Prothane have an off the shelf bushing for my application and they will not verify other part number dimensions to see if they would work

    Update:

I was able to find the OEM part number of my springs (1457043) and found bushings. They are a Harris #HB-880. Two bushings per eye

  4. Good to hear you found them. From playing with Cadillacs many years ago, I remember a lot of rear end parts had multiple types, because there was the "standard" sedan version, then the "commercial" (he****s, ambulances, etc) rear ends which were different.

Glad you found them. I purchased new leaf springs from Stengel Bros. a few months ago, and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. Not sure if you already found this link, but in case not...:

Yes, I understand but if you look at the specifications for each they do not match, dimensional wise. I stated this in my original post
