I just recently picked up this 51 chevy deluxe with all orig 235 6 in it. Not use to something this old and more of a body guy I'm at a loss as to what this is and why coolant is leaking from here. If anyone could help it would be great. Thanks in advance for helping a new guy out.

Not certain, but looks like an old repair of a cracked block that's leaking. Might need to wire brush some of that off of there and get down to bare cast iron to know for sure. You can repair them with epoxy/JB weld, but block needs to be clean, and grind "V" if you can along the crack before putting on epoxy.

That block does have freeze plugs that are press in in several places around the block. They do rust thru sometimes and need replacing. From memory they are around 2" diameter. If you or someone prior to you ran some strong radiator & block flush thru the engine it may have eaten enough of the plugs to make them leak. That is kind of like putting very strong drain cleaner in your sink to break thru a stoppage & it ends up eating thru the metal P trap below the sink.
If it is the freeze plugs if you are not familiar you need to be sure block is properly flushed before replacing.
You should be able to buy these at any auto parts. If no www.chevsofthe40s.com has about anything for the engine or undercarriage & many interior things.
    Good luck, Jim

Thanks Jim I seen the large plugs and they have some old leakage but not new. The parts in question I have circled in the following pictures. The ones to the rear of the block seem to be leaking the fronts are fine. I sanded the one with my 2" roloc and it seems to be plastic/epoxy of some sort.

It looks to me like someone tried to epoxy up leaks. At least two of them seem to be holding... I'd grind out the two that are leaking to find out what is really going on.

Strip the paint over the full length of the oil galley so you can see what's happened under there in the past, as in repairs. Those things crack at 33 degrees ....
