not mine, but a friend brought this over to seek my help in removing the gear. we failed. first, the pin on the far right was removed, then we milled up the "pusher" part on the right, place my biggest bearing presser against the rear bearing on left, and pushed until we started to bend the 3/4" plate with the bolts in it. this thing is clean and oily, cant be rusty in the splines, are they really that tight in there? we even put some heat on the collar on the end of the tube. never moved.
Should not be that hard, it's been years since I touched one and after knocking the pin out the pinion tapped right out. I ask my uncle to see if he recalls anything he did a lot more then I.
today my friend called and said he re-read the shop manual he has, it says in there its pressed on with 2-10,000 pounds of force!!!!! i guess we better make a better tool for removal, but then how the heck to put it back on? anyone got a 7' press? lol!! darn chevys, ford sleeves tap off with a brass hammer
I found this.. Do a google search for ''1949 - 1954 Chevrolet Service Manual'' It sounds like they are balanced as a unit, so mark both halves before removing..
thanks for that, it must be in the manual my friend has, though i had not seen it until you posted. looks like a stronger tool than i made
