so your car has a rack and pinion steering and an aftermarket column? are you sure that you are comparing apples to apples here?
I have been running with that manifold since the early 90’s with no problems. These pictures might help you visualize how the exhaust needs a little jog built into it to provide drag link clearance at full lock.
It was completely stock front end, steering and brakes with that manifold until this year. It is actually the factory column cut down to work with the off topic stuff.
This is much help. Everything else fits good. Just the gear shifter that needs moved up the colum tube. Im shure most people think that this manifold will sound bad and such but more important to make everything fit than move over the engine and such.
I forgot how much monkey motion was on the stock steering geez.. As a second thought you will loose your emergency brake and need to make it work from the left side of the dash. The original car had a closed drive line and you need to work around it.
All I know is that this worked well for me and the price was right. I don’t know what motor mounts you are using so that could possibly change the position of your engine forward or back a bit but for me, using Chassis Engineering motor mounts and transmission mount kit (slight cutdown of stock crossmember) , everything fit nicely.
I modified the shifter box like some previous, locked it inside so it only one arm works, removed the other, on the photo i havent cut the arm yet but before I mouned it i cut it, otherwise it bumped against the head. Bought a adjustable shifter linkage from lokar, easy fix and works like a charm
I get ya, I was offering a different approach to work around the issue without much ado. I too, in a cruiser would rather have the column shifter.
On my Chevy they have mounted an E brake pedal version, most likley from a 60-70s car, mounted to the kickpanel, looks better than a floor mounted i think, I like the floors clean from stuff, thats why i removed the floorshifter and modified it back to column shift
No but i can fix some tomorrow, it aint so advanced, they have just mounted the whole mechanism, but it works great
My e b rake was always on the left side of the dash so no modifications required inside the car. That might be the “Pontiac” part as the dash is a Pontiac dash.
The setup wont win any prices but it works, the mechanism is simply just bolted to the kickpanel. underneath its matched up with the original brake linkage. Should be quite easy find a brake lever this model, the most of them have the same size and function. But if i had done this i should have tried modify the original e-brake lever/handle and moved it to the left side of the steering wheel, (something like the previous post)
I did it a little different, I cut off the stock arm and made a new one on the drivers side of the column. i used a ford windstar shift cable and made custom brackets to hold it top and bottom. i also used an old header flange to space the manifold out to clear the dipstick.
