Does anyone know if you can change the backing plate and drum on the front of an F2 to the F1 stuff. Using the same axle, or do you need to change the whole axle? Call me nuts, but I'm thinking of making a pick-up g***er. Thanks for any help you can give me. [IMG]

I think the axle (or at least the spindle) is bigger...286 or manyolcars should know for sure.

You can if they both have 5 lug, I had a 52 F-1 g***er type pick up with chromed front axle and big block ford. I drove that thing daily for 10 years. It run 13 flat @ 102mph.

The same axle is used 48-52 on F1 thru F3, same king pins and spindles too. The F1 standard duty had its own springs but the HD used the same as the others.

The differences are in the brake and backing plate sizes as well as the hubs.

Lots of interchangability but you may want to keep the bigger brakes in case you intend to stop before the hay bales.

Isn't that why they invented chutes [IMG].

What's the easiest way to convert to 5 bolt, cuz there just ain't enough magnesium wheels made for 8 bolt patterns... [IMG]

The backing plates on my '48 F2 look EXACTLY like '48 Ford p***enger car 12 inch plates. I haven't measured the shoes to see if they are wider.
