So I am having custom dies made for a bead roller to make my floor pans. This is my first time making my own pans and working with metal fab in general. My question is will there be any stretch when I roll the beads? I.e. if I cut the bad pans out and say measure 1 foot and I make the pans will it stretch to 1 foot X inches? Or will it shrink? I want to make sure I understand how the metal will be affected so Im not using tons of material.
cut the patches slightly oversized if your worried about it. I really havent noticed much shrinking when applying beads, just dont over do it.
it will shrink in the bead area. Most people that have access to an english wheel will pre-stretch the area in the bead to account for this. You will probably find that you will produce an oil can condition trying to build floor pans. you could use a plannishing hammer to pre-stretch if you have one.
KrisKustom is right, I rolled some beads in some flat stock to make a floor patch for my shoebox and it shrank a little. I cut it a little bigger then I needed so it was not a problem. didn't think about rolling it 1st, thanks for the tip.
It'll shrink a bit,but i've noticed that there is also some warping.I've hammered the the pieces straight.I guess i'll try planishing hammer at next time.I hope those dies work with your project...
