ok lots of great info today on vac advance today . I have a 51 merc motor in my coupe, put a mallory unilite mech advance with a msd box in it from speedway 18 years ago works , runs , great , but pings at full wahoo ! thought it was to lean , but after playing with power valves and making it way to rich . I think it`s got to mutch total advance ? Ive always just ajusted timing buy if it fights the starter or pinging . I might buy a good timming light now that Im 40 ? to see what , it`s doing . what should total mech advance be ? I know I would need to change weights/springs , thank`s for any input Casey. p.s. thinking of upgrading to the msd dist for a blower motor would it be better to have a vac advance ?
