Want to go with a single pane gl*** eliminating the wing and am wondering for those that have done it did you have to stiffen the inner panel after you cut out the sheet metal for the vent wing.
    Thanks for any help.

Don't the wind wing and door gl*** converge at an angle?

I think he is wanting to do a door gl*** that fills the whole area and delete the vent window, i.e. one piece window.

Single pane gl*** isn't proper terminology for it.

At the bottom of the door window draw a straight line from the back of the window chanel where the gl*** sits to the front of the wing window. Every thing to the outside of the line needs to be filled with metal. If you look at how it sits with the wing gl*** and door gl*** they are at different angles. You are replacing them with one straight piece of gl***.

What I'm concerned about is cutting the webbing where the vent window sits and whether or not thats going to end up making the door flex too much. If my concern is correct I'm trying to see what others have done to stiffen the inner door panel to prevent the flexing.

  8. You will need to stiffen the upper edge of the door. We did it on a customers 50 chevy. @BJR is right, it is A LOT of work to fit one single FLAT window in a place where two parts met at different angles.

Many thanks TMAN, one issue I don't have to worry about is taking time to do it, I've got plenty of time on my hands:)

I believe the window angle is going to be ok

I think I've got a pretty straight shot but appears I'm going to have a sizeable gap at the rear.

My biggest concern was how much flex I'd have and you've helped me with that. Again thanks.

  10. That is a far straighter shot than many cars of the era, you will be fine.

Thanks for the help, this has worked out great. Originally wanted to use the Nu Relic unit as it’s designed for the 49-51 Merc and I think they make great products but unfortunately the drive unit sits under the vent wing window so it won’t work if you want to go with a full window. Ordered the Specialty Power unit and it works great. Removed vent wing metal and didn’t cause any flexing so didn’t stiffen. Installed lift along with my high priced window!
