Yes, these are 1949 Mercury only. I'm home now and can get you the actual size. I think without the S.S. can do a cut in and mount from behind.
I been trying to dig out my old ones and can’t find the damn box with them in it. Can’t remember how big they were lol
The 50-51 signal lense mounts to a corner piece that is part of the Grill. The signal lense mounts to that part. It mounts to a totally Flat surface. The lense coming through the retainer bezel may be in fact be 1 7/8" the total lense is right at 2 3/8" Bexel and all is about 2 7/8" od. and totally flat on the back side. The 49 Merc is a bit different. Slightly larger overall at 4 1/2" with bezel Without bezel 3 1/2" wide. Guess I should get you a height measurement. This unit has a contour that lays nice against the fender, not flat on the back This didn't turn out like it looked in the view window. I'll get a better photo next time I'm in the shop.
Is it too late to consider grafting a pair of outer grille bar sections from a '53-'54 Studebaker onto the outer ends of your grille bar assembly? That'll get you turn signals without disturbing the sheetmetal below your headlights.
Yea don't go below the headlight keep it clean. If nothing else just tuck some small turn signals in on the core support area
More pictures of my coupe, from Chopolds shop, Customs by Flash. The grille coming together and the quarter windows..
Couple pics from last weekend.. all glass is now in except the windshield. Chopolds had to weld up the section around the passenger side sunvisor. Apparently mice got in the headliner and well you know.. had some rust sports and holes there. Engine is running but the new water pump is leaking. Hopefully just the gasket since that was painted gold. I recently got a seat from Mikey Miranda that originally came out of the ClarkKaiser 53 ford. I had to cut off the white pillow tops off of it. Just couldn’t deal with it. We are talking about putting a small console built into the seat where the notch was cut out for a shifter. But for now I have a seat. The Chrome guy called and my grille is done!! Unfortunately I have to work next weekend so it’s gonna be two weeks before I can finally pick it up.. can’t wait! Wednesday we got the window garnish in and the trunk latch set and adjusted. Now it’s like a hundred little things to do before I can drive it..
Looks like you're getting close Tony! I'm sure the excitement is building (no pun intended, lol). The grille insert looks great; if you're still pondering the turn signals, how about this. If you plan on mounting bumper guards on the front bumper, how about flush-mounting them in the bumper guards? Check out Brad Masterson's Fleetline on Kustomrama, he did it on his rear guards. Just a thought
Smart to keep a checklist going. All my stock cars had a clip board hung over the windshield. One side of the list was mandatory tasks, the other a wish list.
So it’s been trying to cross all little things off the list lately so not many updates, fixed a water leak, fixed a gas leak, buttoned up a few things under the car, and trying to decide what bumpers I want to use.. but on the mean time I did score one thing from eBay that I’m pretty happy about.. now just need one more.
So I didn’t post much the other week and this past weekend I had to work, but Chopolds has been hammering on my coupe and sent me some updates.. two major things are done.. the trim is now all cut, welded, polished and on the car! The other thing is the grille is finally back from the chrome shop and he picked it up Monday! It’s so awesome to see something I wanted to try, then see it fabricated up and then chromed.. I can’t wait to get it on the car! Also Mark went on the photo shop post and got a couple guys to do a photo shop of my car. Madfish was able to get a basic shoebox done up and it looked great! Themoose took the picture of my car with all it’s restyling and , man I can really see how it going to be! The 55 royal lancer trim finished and installed! Madfish photoshop of the colors and trim! TheMoose’s photoshop of my actual car!(and he cleaned up Chopolds shop for him! And added some cabinets!) my grille after Mark stretched and welded the pieces together. grille back from the chrome shop! As you can imagine, I can’t wait to get to the shop this weekend!
Lookin Good .I like the way your headin.IM 70 so ive had to deal with some medical issues latelyTony like prostrate issues and early onset of Parkinsons but my buddy Mark from KUSTOMS BY FLASH is gonna give me a hand so right now im looking for a SBF mill and C4 tranny.THANKS and stay well!!!
Big update.. car is running, moving, and the grille is installed, and I took my very first ride in it.. can’t thank Chopolds enough for everything he has done. He’s gone above and beyond, and I can honestly say I don’t think he does it for just the money, but for his huge love of Kustoms. I can’t wait until next year when I get it painted t to proudly display the Custons by Fkash badges on my fenders.
