It's a fleet color for Laidlaw Transport, a little darker and a little less red than Ford Washington Blue.
The Olds looks awesome! Can't wait to see it completed but it looks really good right now. Like the color and profile of the car.
Great job, Don. I'm sure your customer had no idea how good looking his car would turn out in your hands. I'll bet he's speechless.
You're a fucking miracle worker, Don! Nice. Will be cool to see it with the glass and trim in. Is there any brightwork to go around the windows/doors? Looks a bit too blue still.
The pinstriping was done by Ruben Holguin in Visalia. I've seen stipers all over the country and I've never seen anyone better. He can do any "style", his designs have perfect symmetry, the lines are smooth and consistent and his signature has to be seen to be believed. The upholstery was handled by the House of Trim in Paramount, CA. They got it done in time for me to spend a few days getting it shined up for the GNRS. We didn't get the car entered in the show in time so, we were planning on taking it to the Drive In portion of the show on Saturday and Sunday if we didn't get inside as a last minute susbstitution. Fortunately, we got a call Friday morning informing us that there was an opening in building 5. I drove the car over to the Fairplex and after arguing with an overzealous gate guard I got in. Driving the car though the building and parallel parking it between all the other cars that were already set up was a nerve wracking experience. I got the car in place and dusted off just a couple of hours before the opening of the show. There are still a few small details to attend to but, for the most part it's done. THE END.
Wow Don, it's hard to believe that is the same "lump" I saw in your shop 2 yrs. ago! Bravo, job well & truly done....
Forgot that I posted to this thread. As I said before great quality work and Super Looking now that its near done.
saw it at GNRS and loved it...had a '52 dechromed and in primer years ago....many thought it was a Merc....had fun foolin' 'em
I just saw the feature on the Olds in Street Rodder's Online magazine. Congratulations Don... Highway 99 Hot Rod's 1951 Olds
I checked out all the build photos the other night, and now I see I replied to this post but didn't remember anything about the car. I'm like that with movies too, can't remember a thing about them after a few months. Make it easier to watch re-runs. LOL
I know this is like 9 years old. But I’d love more info on the subframe swap. I’m attempting the same thing with my 52 Buick.
Dammit Man, forget all about this beautiful girl. She looks so good in those colors..inside and out. Fantastic job indeed. Only looked at this and page 1. Was this Olds powered? JT
