My Chieftain needs a new fuel tank. Haven't been able to find anything except this one: http://www.classiccarautoparts.com/gastanks.html

Its the first one in the list, but the dimensions seem to be an inch bigger all around. Anyone else used one of these in a Poncho successfully? Any cheaper options? My tank is rusted on the inside and also cracked around the filler neck and the wall feels soft in that area. Thanks.

The smaller GM bodied cars of the 40's and early 50's pretty much used the same tank and what you have to be careful of is were the filler neck and vent + fuel level access are located at. Use your search engine. New knock offs are out there but be sure you know what it is made out of and where the straps are located at. There are some Asian area produced items that have questionable quality on the market here.

The car is all original besides being lowered. I didn't really want to put a fuel cell in it, but $400 for a tank is pretty steep for me at the moment. How much does it usually cost to get my old tank repaired? Cracks around the filler neck and inside is all rusty clogging the fuel filter.
