I have a friend with a 51 Ford Wagon modified with a Volvo steering box. When he grabs the steering wheel and pulls up the steering shaft moves up about 1/4" inch. I know this modification requires cutting and welding the bottom end of the steering shaft. There must be a bearing or a bushing that is either loose or maybe a threaded nut under the steering wheel that is loose. Any ideas where to look? Thanks
Yes. At both ends. Without knowing how it was modified, and no pics, the problem could be dozens of things. Rag joint? U joint? Loose collar on the firewall end? Bushing? Bearing? Too many unknowns.
