    hey guys

got my tank out of the car and ive had it sitting with some rust disolvent in it trying to clean it out for the last few days but ive got some problems.

after dumping out what seemd to be an endless amount of rust sand out of the tank and flushing it a few times it still feels like there quite a bit in there. the disolvent ate the sides clean preety well but i cant seem to get the **** out of the tank. maybe thers a baffle in there or something its catching on??
    i dont know.

either way with the tank full and overflowing at the neck water started shooting out of the top of the tank, at first it was just a small leak around the sender and breather spots so i figured new gaskets and run it. but then a few pin holes poped up and one or two holes about the size of an end of a pencile start blowing water out.

the bottom of the tank is super super solid, shiney black paint, just great. but the top is silver and rust colored with the holes.

im on a more then limited budget going to school full time but i was wondering what my options are. the tank feeds out threw the license plate hole so a 49-51 isnt going to swap in so i guess im looking for 52-4 tanks if im looking for a complete replacement.

now options, find a good tank to swap in. problem is id like it ready to run in about 3 weeks and who knows how long it will take to do that.

find a good tank top and cut the old tank apart to put them together to make one good tank--requires finding some one who knows what there doing and will mess with a gas tank as its risky

try to find some sort of fuel cell for sale and make it work.

try and find if they still make a replacment one. problem is cost

or do i try and find some one who will make me a new steel tank, its just a box with a outlet and maybe a baffle inside it cant take that much time and if the original was just steel im sure that the replacement should be fine being steel and not anything fancy.

    so any thoughts?
anybody got a good tank for sale or connection for whatever route you think is the way to go?

    thanx in advance

    tim

ill update later when i get back to lincoln on this weekends 'thrash' to get the car running and driving for back to the fifys

Maybe something newer and better from a wrecking yard. Find out what years will interchange. Junk yards,i'm sure, would like to get rid of gas tanks.

Mine was rusted the same way. I know you said you did not want to cut up the floor but I used a Mustang tank. Cut out the trunk floor mounted the new tank, used a filler cap/neck(non vented and ran vent hose outside) attached with rubber hose(fuel rated). The top of the tank serves as the trunk floor, I moved the license plate down to the bumper and done away the filler recess. And you can buy brand new Mustang tanks from Ebay for 100 bux or less.
