1952-59 Ford 52-54 hood hinges

    anyone out there rebuild them yourselves? i know these hinges are a sore spot on these cars. i remember hearing of a guy who rebuilds them, but can't find his info. i think he is in burbank, ca. anyone.

  3. Rowland told me the other day that all he does is rebuild your old hinges. Charges $325.00 a pair.

    has anyone here had him rebuild your hinges. what does a rebuild consist of?

    I talked to him last summer and it sounded like he actually reinforces them along with rebuilding them.

    this is what he sent me. i'll be sending my hinges to him. just need to save up a little more scratch. i'll post before and after pics for you guys.


    1952-1954 FORD HOOD HINGE
    REBUILDING PROCEDURE



    HINGE ARMS

    1. Remove rivets-Grind off rivet tails inside of air box.
    2. Remove all rivets.
    3. Straighten arms.
    4. Install and weld bushings in arm to hood mounting holes.
    5. Gl*** bead all arms and air box.
    6. Make new flat coil spring anchor (two flats and slot)

    AIR BOX

    1. Check arm seats on air box for flatness.
    2. If seats are not flat, straighten seats.
    3. Add 3/16-in. thick reinforcing plate to inside of air box.

    RIVETS
    1. Manufacture new steel rivets.
    2. Hand fit rivets.
    3. Install rivets with thin flat steel washer between rubbing arms.

    SPRING INSTALLATION

    1. Install flat springs
    2. Install coil tension springs


    Price--$325.00 per pair

    Mine just came in the mail. When I opened the box, I just had to yell yippeee!!! These bad boys are just awesome. He did exactly what westcoaster posted above. The reinforcement should be a tremendous help. And besides that, I have talked to him several times and he is genuinely a nice guy. I highly recommend him.
