How does a person take them apart so as to be able to get the door off once the hinges have been unbolted?

I posted something in the main forum too in hopes someone will see it and have answers...

...I've tried making a tool to keep the spring clamped to leave enough slack to drive out the pins/rollers...nada. Either they're seized together permanently or were never intended to part ways.

Hoping to use them as they're intended once all the other work on this car is done and it's back on the road.

My collection of old MOTOR manuals has been compromised, any references to '52-'54 ford cars is absent. Can't find scans of the ford shop manual online, I've finally got a day with no honey-do lists and this is holding me up! LoL! Such is life I guess...

Anyone messed with these other than cutting them out? Just trying to avoid rolling the car up on it's side just to be able to hammer and dolly an area on the left rear door ;)

the things are welded in, not bolted...unless there's a way to take them apart I'm looking at drilling things out...I knew I should have bought that spot weld drill bit yesterday lol

might be a silly thought, but can't you just pull the pin onthe right in the pic? I don't think the factory would weld the plate in after ***embly. Don't know for sure, so I could be totally wrong.

They wouldn't have because the door check ***embly would interfere with the process. You pull the pin on the right. Shouldn't have to remove the spring unless you just want to.

the rollers for the part coming into the door from the jamb/post are on those pins.

That was my first thought, after beating on them with a cruddy old foreign made body hammer that's been beat to death I discovered they aren't coming out of there. I'm going to spray a little more P B'laster on it and try to wait patiently for it to do it's magic.

When I took the doors off my '54, I removed the pin on the hinge side door jamb. I had to grind the heads of the pins and drive them out. The limiting arm attached to the jamb can then be pushed into the door and removed , if you want. When I re-installed the doors, I made new pins from 1/4' bolts. I ground the head of the bolt round and then checked for length, then drilled a hole through the lower end of the bolt for a hairpin keeper. You don't have to remove the pin inside the door. You won't get the limiting arm out of the door that way, at least not very easily.

I just removed and reinstalled the doors on my '54. Like flyboy89 said, remove the pin from the limiting arm on the hinge side door jamb. Grind, cut, beat, whatever you have to do. Drill alignment holes in the hinges on the door side, unbolt the hinges and the door will slide right out.

Didn't understand the spring, there is no reason to remove the spring that is inside the door.

I just drilled out the check strap from the A pillar and when reinstalled I used a small screw. HRP

That's what I wound up doing, I try to overthink things and wind up not seeing the most obvious/simplest answer sometimes :p

    Thanks y'all!
