Projects 52 Buick, crank in engines water jacket, What should I do?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jmillsUT28, Mar 10, 2015.

  1. To clip it there are two things that are important, track width which it looks like will fly and front steer/rear steer. When you are trying to use the clip from a front steer car on a rear steer car sometimes if becomes a packaging nightmare. It can be overcome is you have enough overhang on the sheemetal but you have to be very careful when fitting everything together.

make sense? Wouldn't hurt to line everything up and see.

Value is something to think about when doing a restoration. On a hot rod or custom its only relevance to resale is like anything else that you do to it, you always have to find the right buyer and your pool is always limited to those who appreciate what has been done and the quality of the work.

JBWeld makes a "HighHeat" says it's strength is up to 800PSI and 600PSI at 400F. Says it will work on engine blocks. Might be worth trying that with the engine still in the car. I aleady drilled out the end of the crack and put a V in it.

That 455 Buick was designed to push a big beast around with ease. Probably an easy fit in your 52'. Some good cams to be had for the low compression motors at TA Performance. Even a dual quad offy intake for them. Tons of torque. Have seen 12 second Electra 225's at the Buick Nat's.

issue with engine swap idea: you'd have to get a different trans and build a 4 link to adapt a different axle. I'm sure you could find another I-8 small block somewhere. or like said above, drill your ends then s***ch weld.

No lockns***ch for an easy crack is no longer an option.

I'm going to do the jbweld first. Test the car and make sure the trans is holding up. Might also buy another 263 engine with trans to have as a spare. Going to try and clean it up tomorrow and apply the jbweld.

Guys I'm back. The wife had a baby so have not been able to work on the buick. But I did before I stopped working on it apply some of the JB "HighHeat" to the block. Got the car back together this week and cranked it up. No leaks! Ran it for a good hour in the hot sun with no leaks. Figured I would update this thread.

Water Gl*** (from drug store) in radiator, fresh water and warm it up. Shut it off overnight, crack will be visible but with a small seam of 'gl***like' matter along it. No more leaks.
Water gl*** is mfd. from powdered egg whites.
I used it on a '49 Ford walk in van, inline flathead 6. Perfect. 70K miles later, no leaky.
