So, I just bought this 52 Caddy and was wondering if there is any way to tell how many times the odometer has rolled over. I'd love to know how many original miles it has. I am pretty new to this. Thanks in advance.
Not as far as I know...you can sometimes tell by the amount of wear on pedal pads, interior and the like...but really when the car is that old, low mileage really doesnt matter as much...all the rubber parts, seals etc age anyway regardless of mileage. Low original mileage is great if the car sat in a garage out of the weather...I have seen many junky cars that were touted as low original miles...does it matter if it needs a full restoration? Good luck with your car and welcome aboard...lots of Caddys on here..
I had a '51 and there is no way to know how many times the odometer has gone around. The only way to know is if there is a service history from the previous owners. My car had three previous owners. I had much of the service history from the two previous owners plus the record of who the first owner was.
i don't think the milage on older cars is nearly as important as many, many other things are, like the mechanicals. a car could have 12,000 mile on it and be trashed from sitting. i understand your curiosity, i don't know of a way to tell how many time the odometer has rolled over
Look in the door jam for oil change stickers with the mileage and date written down on them. also check in the glove box for receipts with oil change or tune up info and mileage on them.
