Ok ok rob thanks for calling me out! I've been mainly organizing my shop area lately, but I'm planning to get some work done this weekend for sure.
Glad someone called you out, I have been trying to hold off. Ha Ha! I'm no better off, my fleetline is still outside. Been working on cars to put on the car lot, have 5 done now and 2 more to get ready. Would like to sell a few to get some money coming in, then I can work on my projects again.
Just got done working on a 55 elbo with dual quads that would look sweet with that batwing air cleaner.Could not figure out what that vacuum line is for in the middle of the intake that goes down to the right side of the block?
It's all because of you rob! Haha So I pulled the front suspension out, again: So then of course I had to make some room in my garage... So why not lower the frame on some jack stands and stuff a wheel under the front cap for a nice low mock up to stare at while I do the tons of work to the front and rear suspension: Man I need some bumpers...
Im always here for ya! Man that last pic looks killer. Good job mocking it up, it will keep you motivated. I hate looking at mine on jack stands, depressing! Now get to work!
Thanks rob! I've really been wanting to mock it up as I knew it would keep me motivated to see it like that while I'm working on some of the other less glorious aspects of the build. I'm going to start tearing down the front suspension tonight to see what all I will need for the rebuild.... but one thing I know I need: So if you have any stock 53-54 uprights and steering arms lying around, please let me know!
I guess I could do***ent the front end makeover 1/2" all thread a couple nuts and washers and a hunk of steel with a hole in it and I'm compressing the spring!
Looks like you will need to leave a hole in the floor. That way you can still use your Flintstone brakes!!
Awesome build, I'm watching the suspension updates closely and dig the truck rear suspension too. Great job!
Ok been busy with work and stuff but this weekend I'm getting work done on my car! Front end is completely torn down: For the most part it was well greased and everything survived.... Except this upper control arm shaft: May be hard to tell in the picture but the back side (on left) is very worn. It states in the manual that you have to remove a sheetmetal panel that covers the steering box to access this grease fitting, so my guess is that somewhere in the last 60 years laziness prevailed and the owner failed to grease this one spot. I'll order one of these shafts when I order the misc. seals and o-rings I need for everything else. Heard it's a pain to get out and replace, but I will win this battle! Haha
Bob lewis's '49 chevy has cut down '55 olds skirts molded in... I really like this look, and it's different than your regular oem option full skirts (that personally I don't think are the right shape on these cars)
Are you going to do anything to the rear fenders? That is the one thing I dont like about my 51 is the shape of the rear fenders. The 49-50 models flow much better with the swoop of the rear fenders. The fenders on the 51-52 are too square in my opinion. I like full skirts but I think they need a lip added to them at the bottom. I also like the look of the 57 Chevy rear wheel opening grafted in, very similar to what you posted above.
