I have a photo of a 1952 chevy custom that I found on the iinternet. I am trying to find the same type mirrors that are pictured. Can I post a photo so anyone might know the source?
Hi, i have a set that are very similar from vision hot rod accessories. check out their website at visionhotrod (hope its okay to post that?) my uncle is building a 47 pickup and decided not to use them and asked me to put them on ebay for him. PM me if you have any interest.
hard to see in that picture, but they almost look like 70s camero mirrors. if they are what i think they are, don't do it!!!!
I don't know about the old chrome mirror. I've seen a car or two using the small chromed bullet shaped accessory mirrors from the early 60s or so that looked pretty good. Even a factory 57 Chevy or Ford mirror on an earlier car is better than those modern semaphore mirrors that some are using.
hard to tell the size in that pic..look like iroc if there larger size,or 70's GM if smaller..either way it would be a sin to use on a old car..chrome looks better
I would agree and I have new swan neck mirrors to go on the car. The ploblem is you can not see the original mirror thru the wing vent gl***...it is too low...the new ones will work but they ar so long that they so how don't look just right...everyone direct me to a mirrow website ...but I located that a long time back. The ones in the photo have 2 bends that bring it up higher and still close to the car. Here is a photo of another 52 with the swan necks that I have...see if you think they look right...I don't also attaching a photo of my project car
You know I am new to this formal and I am a bit shocked at some of the rather sarcastic responses, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
really? please tell me when you think it would be appropriate<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> to ask a question of guys like you...piss off
ha, ha, sorry man. Yes, it is hard to find mirrors that look good AND you can actually see something with. Keep looking, I found some at a swap for $15 and they actually work great. I was trying to find a photo to show you, but it was easier to just be sarcastic.
Ok, Alley Opp, instead of being sarcastic, I'll try to be more helpful. Those chrome mirrors you show on the tan 52 are actually a nice look that works well with the style of the rest of the car, but yeah, that are kinda tall. So, either keep looking, or figure out a way to shorten them - you could section the stem, or lop off the end and then tapp it to be able to thread on a bullet that is also tapped to be able to accept the mirror head or something. Be creative. You sound like you know what you'd like, but just can't find it. But those camaro mirrors are just from way too different of a styling era and just plain don't look good when mixed with the style of an old car - it just clashes. I think that all the negative responses you got on this thread are because we've all seen too many -otherwise cool- cars messed up because people somehow think those mirrors look right with an old car because they are both round-ish shapes, but there is more to it than that. The car and the mirror in question represent two very different concepts.
Alley Oop is way cool...hadn't thought of him in years. Anyhow, there are numerous threads on the H.A.M.B. with great pix of Chevys like yours. You might want to check some of those out for some mirrors that look good on them. Stay from the old style round head mirrors that are still sold at the chain parts houses. They are asian made junk that will be rusty in six months. I found a cool set for my car on eBay that came off a late '50s Rambler...paid 8 buciks.
I think these are pretty cool, and would go with the style of your Chevy... Great mirrors!!! Mack's Antique Auto Parts on eBay lists these as the following: Outside Rear View Mirror - 2 Hole Base for 1956 to 1965 Ford (B5AZ-17696-B) No base gasket or screws are included. Hope this helps.
There ya go...all those chrome bits on that car almost look as though they could have been designed by the same hand, rather than from different hands from many decades apart. They are in harmony. That's all I'm trying to say.
i think..no i know speedway sells them mirrors...i dunno if you have seen them on a car actually ...not for nothing they dont really look that good ive seen them on a custom 50 merc they look a little out of place..but thats my 2 cents..good luck
If you are still interested in 2 cents worth of opinion - the Corvair repo parts guys sell a nice chrome mirror similar to the one on the chopped Merc in this thread. The cool thing is that, if you are in fact puting it/them on a Chevy, the Corvair has a real cool "bowtie" embossed on the back. Good looking mirror IMHO, and perhaps a little more appropriate than the '70s style "racing" mirror. A quick Google should find you a pic.. P.s. If you are near a salvage with '60s cars, the mirror I am talking about came with many '63 full-size Chevys as well. Dave
Here's the result from a quick search (C7932 is the one I had in mind, but any of these could look "right"): http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/main
the swan neck mirrors work fine you just need to mount thm back a little farther. these were cheapies from taiwan, but there are stainless ones out there also here's a link to the the mirror page in the chev's of the 40's catalog. be sure to click the to view the previos page for a few more examples. http://www.chevsofthe40s.com/shop/search.l***o?&search=mirror&dept=car&skip=40&Max=40
Welcome aboard!! Sarcastic responses? That is what makes the HAMB so much fun, believe me it used to be a lot worse. I agree with the guys please look for another mirror option. Looking at your projects they' re way too kool and I can't wait to see them. They deserve a cl***y 50's style mirror. Good luck with the projects Happy Trails, Mick
