hello everyone. been awhile since i was on. today i hit up the turkey rod run with my 52 ive been tinkering with. since my last post, ive got an original grille back in, welded up the trim holes, odds and ends here and there, threw a quick primer job on it and had the seats redone. car drove pretty decent, but on the way back home it started feeling like it was starving for fuel. bogging/sputtering until you let off the throttle and then eased back in. had new tank and lines put in before i bought it and i put in a new fuel pump and cleaned out the carb. time for a carb rebuild? any input? PS..i think my swamp cooler drew more attention than the car itself
not a fan of the cylinder air conditioner but very cool car. I think it would look awesome with some beauty rings and some whitewalls. Eitherway, bad***
I picked up a set of spider caps to accent the wheels a little bit. I haven't filled the cooler with water or anything but it sure does throw air into the car. Mainly put it on for looks
WOW- looks great! seats came out nice. My 52 was having the same fuel problems recently. I thought it was because the gas cap wasn't vented. I started running it with the cap only screwed half-way on and it seemed to get better.
i put a curved air scoop velocity stack on the carb and bought an oval filter to fit in the opening and i think it was choking the motor of air. when i would rev it up at the carb, you could see the filter being ****ed towards the carb. pulled it off and ran a bug screen and it never sputtered once.
also, on the morning of car show day 2 i discovered the car isnt charging. had to throw it on the charger to get it going. luckily i made it home from the show. should i just get the alternator conversion for a quick fix? not switching to 12v just yet.
This is what is involved going 12 volt:http://reviews.ebay.com/6-to-12-Volt-Conversion-1955-Ford?ugid=10000000001571127 So giving the fact you are not ready to go 12 volts yet just fix what you have, you might want have to the car tested here:http://www.dlenzautoelectric.com/ The chain stores usually don't know squat about generators or 6 volt systems.
Nice! Seats look great. Love the detail on the inside door panels as well. And dang look at that shiney chrome!
thanks for all the info jeff, that sure will come in handy. thanks for the compliments turbochick. i saw MACs has a quick 6 volt alternator conversion for a pretty decent price. may go that route for now
Check this out:http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-VOLT-ONE-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d6f6a127&vxp=mtr This is an EZ hook up,run one 6 gauge cable from the positive battery cable to the alternator and you are done, the regulator is internal so you can clean up the engine bay of wiring clutter.
I like your car, I really like the interior. You said you cleaned out the fuel line and tank, replaced fuel pump and rebuilt carb. You might check your ignition coil. I had one a couple of years ago that gave me fits. I really believed it was starving for fuel, but it turned out that the coil was getting hot and loosing its ooompf. I found it by driving long and hard enough to die and saw that I still had fuel in the carburetor, checked spark and had none. When it cooled down it restarted. I replaced the coil and the problem went away.
missed the part about where you got your interior done at. did you do it or was it a kit? interior does look good.
