    Hey now,

I just picked up a steal on a 52 Coronet 2 door with an original flatty straight 6 that runs like a top. Just tryin to figure if I can get some more power as it sits around 130 or so, it is of course the canadian model 25". I pondered on a 318 but before I dish it out I need to know the possibilities of this original flatty. Any input helps.

I meant to say it's a regent, hence the plymouth body. Which is gonna look damn mean once I chop it this winter.

Use search, Threads on hopping up the 6, & on putting a 318 in them

Thanks man, I was figurin along the lines of tips to get a few more horsepower out of it to get a bit more kick, like parts I could swap. Just basically want to figure what the full potential of this flat six is without spending the amount it would cost to just do the swap.

There's a guy on the Board that makes parts under the "Edgy" name for Mopar flat 6s, I believe.

Canadian Plym and Dodge used a special version of the Chrysler six. You could install a Chrysler or DeSoto or Dodge truck engine of up to 265 cu in. With a few hop up parts like cam, carburetors, dual exhaust etc. you can get up to 150-175 HP without too much trouble.

Could also bore your block to 3 7/16" install the crankshaft and rods from a 265 and make your block into a 265.

It does not sound like a lot of HP but the old long stroke engine has a lot of punch in the low to medium speed ranges. Those who have driven a good one, have no trouble keeping up with supposedly more powerful cars at least up to 70 MPH.

most bang for the buck, mill the head. you can go .080 without worrying about premium gas. But you need ot run your timing a bit more advanced that stock.

Big thanks for the tips fellas. I might keep the engine as is for the winter while I do the chop and then put the tips to good use come spring. Damned canadian weather.

Check with Edgy Speed Shop http://edgyspeedshop.com/ he does finned aluminum heads for the long block as well as reground cams.

There are dual carb intakes out there both aftermarket and stock they are just not that plentiful or easy to find.

You can also check with Manifolds by Moose http://www.manifoldsbymoose.com/home/chrysler he is here on the HAMB and builds custom intakes / headers for both the short and long blocks.
