My 52 F1 came with only one running board and I have not been able to track the drivers side down as yet. I don't want new, the truck is 65 years old and looks it. I am wondering what others have done here. I am considering cutting a pair of oak planks until I find a good steel one. Any pics of what might look OK in the mean time? Thanks, Gordo
I built these running boards out of White Oak with a butcher block style construction on my '51. A single plank will likely warp, especially in Ontario where the weather changes often. I also used many, many layers of marine spar varnish. When I re-build the truck, it will get steel running boards, as it is a late 90's build and is starting to get quite dated.
...made these temporary boards (that became permanent) for my 38 Chevy out of 1x's and doubled the edge for thickness, looked good and most people never noticed they weren't real steel...(not a good pic)
Try Ford truck enthusiast. com. It's a very friendly site for old Ford trucks. Lots of parts for F-1's. This thread is a great excuse to post a shot of my F-1. Sold it about a year ago, very missed.☹️
Those really look sharp. Gives me an idea with mine, even though I have a factory flatbed truck, and good cab length running boards. I will be building my own wood flatbed and possibly matching running boards?
Sorry, really don't like the look of wood running boards. My plans are to use exhaust tubing for the out side radius, weld sheet metal to tubing and bend to desired width in the inside part. put some bracing underneath.I'll cut the tubing ti fit the contour of fender.Think about it for a while, it really won't be that hard to fabricate. But they will be smooth.Good Luck
F2 boards are cheap, I just cut one down to fit my F1, memory says I took a 9" section out near the rear end of the board
