Hey fellas, I have a question for you. Is anyone aware of the difference between a 52 ford stepside tailgate and a 53 stepside tailgate? The reason I ask is my tailgate is repairable but beat up pretty damn bad, cracks in tough to get places ect, Im at the end of an already tight budget and am trying to finish this truck up pretty quick for a show. I found a smooth tailgate "cover" for much cheaper than a replacement in LMC but they only list it for 53 and up, none for 52 and below. just wondered if anyone knows the difference if there is one.
Width is the same, but height may be different? Not sure...... Why not have a local sheetmetal shop make you up a cover? They are pretty simple, and would probably be cheaper too....
I don't know about differences in dimensions, but the '52 and earlier had the Ford script lettering, and for '53 and later Ford switched to the block lettering. Of course that info is completely useless to you since you are looking at a smooth cover, but hopefully somebody can chime in with the dimensions.
