I'm gonna go ahead and start a new thread about the truck that peckerhead and I are building. It'll have a 5" chop, 302 with c4, violently pinstriped and more! Here's the condition it's in at this very moment
I've got a '49 cab & was thinking a 5" chop & leaning the A pillars back was going to be a good plan. I'm interested in all the pics you've got, so post away...
There's really no set plans here lol it's pretty much if it don't line up, make a cut and make it line up then tack weld. Tack weld Tack weld Did I mention tack weld?
fwiw; Clarence (see my avatar) is chopped 5" and the roof stretched (not laid back "A" pillars). I'm looking forward to seeing your progress pix. What rear end; gear ratio; front suspension; etc? The avatar pic was snapped just as the MoKan light went green and I was at WOT making the rear squat. Normally Clarence has quite a rake. I'm in the process this winter of moving the rear axle to over the springs instead of under the springs. I'm hoping that it will level out front to back at that time, although I'd like to keep a little rake. Looks like your sheet metal isn't rusted as bad as most. Lucky you.
My avatar 49 Ford COE is chopped straight 4 inches, all stock pillar angles. I quartered the roof and filled in splices. Look forward to seeing more pics of yours.
Atch nice truck bro! I've got a 9" with 3:50 posi. As for the front we're keeping as much as we can factory and going as low as we can. Sids 3" drop axle. 38chevy, that's a gnarly truck man I dig it! 46 steel dude nicely done! Very slick truck!
This is not a Ford cab but here is a link to my build thread that I chopped the top a total of 7" on. It got quite extensive. 4" at the doors, 3" above the doors, 2" in the windshield and leaned back 4". I took out 2-1/2" above the windshield and chopped the rear window 1-1/2" and lined it up with the side windows. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/international-kb-7-chop.989019/
I already checked out your build. I love it. It's gotta take BALLS to cut something up that much. I'm working on a practice chop now. Actually, trying to fix the PO's work on an earlier truck. I'll start a thread later. Then, onto the '49. Then, maybe the balls to chop my Merc...
Thank for the complement. I studied it for a while and knew what needed to be done. I have always excelled at spacial concepts so understanding what it needed was not too hard for me. When fastrnu was in clearing out mode he said "you've got the vision for that thing why don't you take it and do something with it" so I did. I have understood what it takes to chop a car but nobody wanted to be my first so I did it to this one. The main thing to remember when chopping a top is gl*** does not bend. I have seen lots of oops on this especially if a curved windshield is involved.
