I always loved the Chevrolet better, but you have to ask yourself; wouldn't you rather have a Buick?;)

A curved inward bumper, a gravel guard, and drip rail were all selling features....man simpler times for sure...and some how all those people driving those cars survived without heated/cooled seats, a drinker warmer/cooler, 4 TV, etc..

Now I am a Chevy guy over 50's Fords, but I thought it was pretty funny knocking Fords full flow oil filter over Chevys no oil filter. Saying no filter is better than spending money for an extra cost factory installed full flow oil filter.:p

I'm a Chevy guy but I think the early fifty Fords had it made, especially styling, Chevy won after 55 though.

I think ford and mercury had some very cool cars from 49 to 57 after that not really.

Pretty snarky. And funny. I like Chevys, but the 4 door Ford is better looking. Love the "fiber gear is better" spin.

The typical advertising mumbo-jumbo ! "Our design is best", then next year touting a completly different design.

Misleading, bull**** advertising is the the number one reason I love the HAMB - I'm able to get real world reviews from people like me who actually use an item. Put that together with all the tech info shared on HAMB and what gearhead would NOT be a member ?

Pretty cool. I'm a ford guy but I thought the 52 Ford was about as ugly as they got! Especially after the shape of a 1949 business coupe!

1952 for Ford was like 1958 for GM.

With this said a ‘52 Chevy is a nice reliable car if you do not exceed 50mph. She’ll run all day at that speed. 70 mph... forget it.

A 52 Ford can run with most traffic to this day.

I always thought that the Ford of this year was better looking than the Chevy, but not by much, I personally don't think either one would win a beauty prize, especially in my eyes. We all have our own tastes. I think that the Ford improved in subtle looks by 1953-54 whereas the Chevy got uglier, at least to me, I realize there are lovers of every model out there.

My uncle was selling new Chevrolets at this time, now I know where some of his arrogant dismissive at***ude came from.

Chevy didn't offer pressurized oil system prior to 1953, correct? 1952 was still splash system. Which would explain @F-ONE s comment.

What about Ford? Their engines were pump pressure systems in 1952? ***ume the answer is yes . . . conveniently overlooked by the marketing geniuses?

"The new super-thin chrome on the grille of the 1952 Chevrolet polishes right off to reveal a lustrous, golden-hued copper underneath. And the rock hard suspension keeps drivers alert and awake. Unlike the "all new" Fords, the 1952 Chevrolet will be easy to maintain into the future since it shares body panels with models made since the late 1940's"

I could have been the spin guy for Chevy back in the day! "Accidents in the new 1952 Chevrolet are much less likely to be fatal due to the maximum capable speed of 50 MPH"

  18. I'd give Chevrolet the edge on the mechanical systems.
But Ford gets the prize for styling. Especially for the gl*** greenhouse with better views and less claustrophobia.

Man, that's funny. While some of the points were valid, many were just plain stupid, mocking things that Chevy soon took up themselves. :D :D

I resent that...... my 52'was easily capable of 53 MPH....all day,....well, most of the day long. Ok,.....once in a while....(down hill) ,as long as it wasn't a real big hill, cause, then there was that too fast thing where **** blew up.

    Who cares about a Dodge?

  24. Yea, I noticed that. I guess that means Dodge wasn't much of a threat.

But all seriousness aside, the film is just hype for Chevrolet sales staff to counter Ford's self-coronation hype as "the greatest car ever built in the low priced field", and "the only completely modern car in its field". So Chevy pegged the dial on the Smoke and Mirrors Machine. So what? Ford was not exactly lily-white either.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Go for a fun ride in your Ford or Chevy....... or Dodge. :)

Still happens today. Remember the GM trucks ads trashing Fords aluminum boxes, well GM thought it out, finally gave in that it is "Better Idea".

I think a Chevy vs Plymouth comparison would have fit the market better than Chevy vs Dodge.

All of them were pretty lackluster from 1949 to 1955 to me. The Fords looked better, except those Studebaker inspired bullet grilles. There are exceptions, the business coupes of both looked decent. In 1955, Ford and Chevy both came out with great styles, and Chevy finally got a V8, 23 years after Ford, and 1 year after Ford's first OHV engine. So, who was behind all those years? :D:D:D
