hey guys, ive searched and cant find my exact answer. i have a 52 meteor (ford) and i really want to use the gauges. besides changing it to work with 12 volt what can i do about sending units and does anyone have a wiring diagram or even a picture of how the 52 gauges are wired? thanks in advance. keith
Ford used 6 volt gauges well after the cars became 12 volt systems you will need an instrument cluster voltage regulator you can get that from www.usapartssupply.com part# F10804C for about $25,this should be what you need also http://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-1953-1...ure&hash=item2eb67dea29&vxp=mtr#ht_1141wt_903 If you haven't got one yet send Retro Jim a pm and get the Ford Parts Manual CD only $12 delivered to your door, best $12 you can spend on your project.
i love this group! thanks jeff! would this be the same part from macs "constant voltage regulator" i only ask about there because i have a few pieces im picking up from there soon. http://macsautoparts.com/1949-59-fo...rd-b9mz-10804-c/camid/F50/cp/JS0R3CHL1106621/ keith
Using any of those resistive "regulators" will work, but the results won't be particularly accurate. With a resistive setup, the voltage to the gauges will fluctuate with the battery voltage. A better way is to use a simple and very inexpensive solid state voltage regulator that will keep the instrument voltage steady all the time. This is what I did on my '53 when I went to 12 volts, and it's worked flawlessly for quite some time. A single regulator runs the fuel gauge, the coolant temperature gauge, and the oil pressure gauge. If you send me a PM with your e-mail address, I'll send you the circuit, pictures of my ***embly, and some wiring diagrams that cover the instruments.
