I have a 52 mercury with a small block Chevy in it the guy I got it from and wired it up and it was all spotty and I didn’t trust it. I bought a updated painless, complete wiring harness with fuse block to update it to 12 V everything is gone fine wiring it except for my push*****on start my original starter*****on was a single wire ground activation. How do I go about wiring that up to work with the Chevy motor? What starter relay do I need to get any help and input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Positive to the S on solenoid thru the*****on just like every old Chevrolet. Depending on the ignition the key turns on the 12v to the coil you’re just not using the “start” on the key because your car doesn’t have it. If your running points an extra wire can bypass the ballast resistor for a hotter start.
You can replace the one wire starter*****on with a two wire one. I was given one years ago and it fits the hole in my '40 Ford dash. Was told that it was from a '51 but if your car is a '52, maybe I was told wrong. Someone here probably knows.
Use the original solenoid It will work on 12v run the cables as to the original starter to the cable terminal on the chevy starter run a jumper from the S terminal to starter cable
