Rod & Custom Magazine Freaks, I need help finding the history of this car, the ash tray has a decal that is silver & blue, and says "this is a Rod & Custom featured car."The trunk had tuck n roll ulphostory and in the back panel was the name Joe Burt, stiched in to the ulphostory. the car has a california ***le with black and yellow plates, the upholtery has narrow pleats and is real tuck and roll, so that would place it in the late fiftys or early sixty's . the car was a medium burgandy, but I dont know if the top was white? It has a old's rocket motor with a three pot, and a three speed lasalle ******. it had dual spot lights, The only parts I am missing are the bumpers, and I am trying to find out what they used and the paint scheme. that is the reason for my inguiery. I would greatly apreciate any help to find the article it was featured in . the car was probably from San Diego or the so. cal. area. The car sat in Lee Bright's shop for many years and had lowering blocks and cut coils . Danny Brent painted the wheels bright green recently,so I don't know if the small hubcaps were on the car originally. Please help with any information for I want to restore the car the way it was. thanks Miguel
I am trying to find out what custom bumpers where comonly used on 52-54 fords, for this car did'nt use the gravel pans, and the rear quaters seem to have a flair built in to recieve the rear bumper. any suggestions would help. Miguel
Sorry the car did not ring any bells with me. I don't have time right now to browse my collection of R&C's... But when I have I will keep en eye open for it.
Thanks again, by the way Stephan Rabenslag sends his regards, when you get a chance , if you can give me some ideas on what bumpers I could use, I would greatly apreciate it. If you run into any of the german Lifters at the shows out there, send them my regards.Thank you again Miguel
That's the stock front bumper pan, I would guess it had the stock front bumper on it when built. The rear does look modified though, I've seen a few cars from the era that ran inverted bumpers, basically the stock ones upside down, on these cars.
looks like a cool project, ask the guys in the 52-56 ford social group, im sure they would know. the only other custom bumper i have seen before on a 52 was a 56 olds front bumper, but it doesnt look like thats what would have been on there before
that doesnt look like it was modified to much by the bumpers to me, at least it looks just like mine! I have a 54, and it has the stock front bumper, I am lowering it a little and pushing it in a little for a tighter fit, and I have (i believe) a 50 olds or pontiac rear bumper that did not require any modification, and it looks really good!
I'll flip through mine after I get off work and see if I see it. The grill seems familiar, but I dunno. Very mild car to get a feature.
Man I got all excited, but my hood is luvered , and the hockey sticks are difer'nt, I'll take more pictures this weekend, Man you guys are great,I shure apreciate all the help. I love looking at these cars customized, hopefully more guys will post pictures of some. Also mine is a early 52 with the three piece gl***,was this comon? and how do you join that vicky social group?
I checked all the R&C magazine in my collection.... did not find it. But then.... my collection is not complete.
I 'll try to take a picture of the rod and custom decal on the ash tray tomorow, maybe that will tell us around what year it was featured. Thank you again for looking.I like red barrons pontiac bumper, what do you think Rik?
I think it was featured in the later part of the 50's. The car has a aftermarket tube grille. (at least thats what it looks like) and those where not available in the early 50's (pre 55?) as far as I know. I love the look of the Pontiac bumpers.
If you stare at the picture of the quater panel Justin just posted , you can see the flair for the rear bumper, is that stock? also you can see the decal on the ash tray. it is not a water based decal, so it can't be very old. If some body knows when rod and custom gave those out, it would really help?
I am sending you a Social Group invite, just click on it.Do a "new guy" intro when you get there, from then on just click on Community up top, click on social group and you will find your new home!
Wow, didn't notice the steering wheel before. That is awesome. I hope you find pics and restore the car to its former glory!
Yes, the flare that follows the shape of the rear bumper in the quarter panel is stock, I just checked my '52 in the yard. As for the sticker, that looks like something that would have been on the outside box of an AMT model kit or similar, like "new and improved" or "glue not included". I highly doubt that Rod and Custom made up little stickers to give to people who's cars were in the magazine.
Thanks for the info on the bumper, that solves my big head acke, as for the sticker on the ash tray, my friend Danny Brent, who sold me the car ,asked Pat G****e if the car was legit, and pat said he remembered seeing the car in the little pages. I also showed it to my friend Kevin Elliote , and he was going to try to research it for me. If the car is bogus, I get to paint the car the color I want.If it does have history , than I am obligated to restore the car how it was. pedigree is great , but it also limits you to what you can do to the car, thanks again for inviting me to the 52-56 club . So thats the reason I asked if the car had history , I need to get some paint on it , before it goes bad .
I am trying to solve this puzzel , Did Rod and Custom give out decals to the cars that were featured in their magazine?
