Hello everyone, I have a 52 Windsor i put a v8 in it (360LA married to a 727 torqueflight) i am looking for a budget way to get power steering.
EDIT: OP Asked originally about suspension and brakes. That's why my response covers those topics. It now says Power Steering. I don't have any further response to a new member that is going to edit their questions instead of clarify with replies. Better how? The suspension is SLA. https://motor-car.net/innovation/suspension/item/14672-short-long-arms-suspension The frame is designed to accept the arms and would require major rework or complete 'clip' to change. Budget here is going to depend on your shop and experience. Considering the MII was for a fairly light car, I would not consider it. Search says The 1977 Ford Mustang II weighs between 2630 lbs (1192.948 kg) and 3053 lbs (1385 kg). The Chrysler isn't very heavy, but search says The 1952 Chrysler Windsor has a curb weight of 1730 kg / 3810 lbs. Another version of the 1952 Chrysler Windsor has a curb weight of 1960 kg / 4320 lbs. Brakes - swapping to discs can be done, it will require a hub that will fit or use spacers to fit, then a bracket to mount a caliper. Doing a quick search found his that talks about going from 48 to 52 (!?!) front suspension. It might have some info for you, I didn't read through it all. https://p15-d24.com/topic/43321-is-...-plymouth-to-52-chrysler-new-yorker-possible/
Wrong board for suspension swaps like that. Personally I would just rebuild the original suspension as they didn't drive that bad back then, put an upgrade set of shocks on it and then figure out how either to put stock or figure out what box fits the simplest for power steering. The car is a cruiser and never will be a race car but should roll down the big roads with the big dogs in comfort without doing a***** ton of suspension changes.
The primary reason for changing suspension on that one would be that you are missing pieces that you can't find or it is damaged or you just flat cannot find replacement parts to buy at any price even overpriced nos oem stuff on Ebay. Any real suspension changes are going to call for cutting the frame behind the front suspension and grafting on a front suspension (off topic here) or building new front frame rails and using the suspension out of something such as a Jag XJ from around 1980 which is also verboten and off topic on this board. You might want to go back to the front page and read the rules for the board.
No steering box on the car? Even if it's on there I don't blame you for wanting to change it. I have a 53 Chrysler. Those early Chrysler power steering boxes were weird. At least to me they are. Probably cuz I don't really understand them. Power****ist, yet no visible hydraulic lines? Or ports? I saw a wire, that's all. They don't make anything for the old Chryslers. You're going to have to get inventive. Look at a bunch of junk cars to find a box with the same basic mounting and pittman arm geometry. Fairly budget friendly. More work than anything.
