I have a 53 Bel Air, manual trans with stock front end, and in an attempt to upgrade my front brakes to discs on a budget, I was curious if anyone has put together a part number/application breakdown for what is included in the kits? I know someone did something like this for the 12V conversion, so I figured it's worth asking. I'm sure the brackets are rather specific to this conversion, but the caliper/rotor/bearings/lines, etc I'm hoping I can source if anyone has this info. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! The guys I remember back in the 80's adapting disc brakes to '49-'54 Chev's did them with parts taken from late 60's Chevelle's. I cannot remember what wheel bearings they used to match spindle diameters. If you are trying to save money by pulling parts at your local wrecking yard, I don't know if you can save much since restoring Chevelle's is big business now. Here's a link to a conversion kit. At the very least it will show a part breakdown of what you will need to purchase or make. Good luck. https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail/21757/Chevy_Brake_Disc_Conversion_Front_4954_Chevy_Car.html
This is What I did, I bought the conversion brackets from eBay, off a company in Placentia, CA, and pieced together the rest of the parts from auto stores. Plus my best friend worked there so I got a discount. I used everything from a 70s Camaro
Off Speedways site. Gives you the rotor, calipers, and bearings/seals to use, but you still need to make the bearing spacers and caliper brackets.
