Thinking about doing a chop on a mid 50s caddy coupe. Looking for pictures (good and bad) of those cars chopped. Im trying to decide between a lid lowering, a carson, or a slanted back chop. Any thoughts? Thanks
imho carsontops works best on 193*-1952(1953) cars on 1954-> it looks missplaced, you got d'agostinos cadstar to look on as an example, i belive that was an 1954 caddy, good chop there...
I agree, they have geat proportions from the factory, In fact I don't think I've seen a caddy of any year chopped that I liked better than the stock roof. They just needs the extras shaved and the trim polished.
Padded chopped top and loooooong rear fenders. I dont care for the billet wheels and tunneled headlights, but I do like the chop! However this is one of the nicest "mild" caddy's I have seen in a while. Very subtile and no chop. (photo's by Boones)
any more pictures of that last one? from the side maybe? I'm missing the verticle piece of trim off my passenger side on my 53 and I'm half tempted to do it up like that blue one..just fill it and blend it. Personally I like the stock rear end so I won't be messing with it. But the front end treatment of that midnight blue one is pretty close to what I have in my head for mine. Thanks for the photos by the way. I had a few people tell me not to do the satin black on mine but I think I still might..but I'm leaning toward something else right now. as for the chop...it has to be PERFECT and very subtle. that era cadi already sits pretty low and has a great look to it. Would be very easy to jack it up. If that happened I'd just cut it off and go carson.
It is very hard to do a good looking chop on the 50-53 models. When you see them in person the roof looks a tad tall, but chopping doesnt do the trick becuase it detroys the curve designed into the roof. The photo of the flat black one above is the best looking chop I have seen... If I remember right it is a 1960's Chevy roof on it. They just completely did away with the Cadillac's curve. HyFire
[/QUOTE] This is Travis Barker's caddy isn't it? Someone posted a thread awhile ago lookin' for pics of it.

That last gallery is epic. Thanks for the post. Im still torn about doing my '54. If I do chop it I have to figure out how to make a sloped chop look correct. I saw the 56 in custom rodder a while ago and it was an even chop but it didn't look right. They lost the proportions. Thats why I'm trying to envision something a little more drastic like a 4/7. Still just thinking.
We chopped a 53 coupe deville for a customer in arizona. We chopped it 1.5" in the front and lift the back glass the stock size. It basically flattened out the rain gutter, that went up hill all the way to the windshield. I thought the proportions were perfect after that. just Little tweak. i have not gotten the wheels or tires on it to roll it outside, but after the old roll outside and look at it session. I know this thing looks good for the stance that the car has. There will be more pics on the web site when my web guy gets off his butt. www.ironworksspeedandkustom.com
any chance anyone has more info on that primer black chopped one? It's similar to what i'm going for with mine...want to see what caps those are and what wheels he's running. I'm having wheel/hubcap issues.
I also think the chop on that one is very nice and it is one of my favorite Caddy's ever.As far as any info on that one,I believe Cole Foster might know more about it.I have several Paso videos and one shows the arrival of Cole and his "gang" in Paso and this Caddy is part of the group too.Why don't you just PM him ? It's worth a try...
This aint a Caddy-But its a 53[or51 ]Buick Hardtop with the same roof as the Cad's......I chopped this one 3" frt and rear.
