I have been talking to a guy trying to sell a "53-54" chevy. I asked him which it was, he said both, its a late 53 early 54 model. it looks like a 54 in every way. I thought inside my head where all the important conversations take place that this guy was full of*****. Now before I call him out on it, maybe I can learn something. I have never heard of this in cars this early but it could happen. Please tell what your opinions are on this.
It could possibly be a late 53 production date, but that does not make it a 53. If its a 54 model year, then its a 54. Decode the VIN to be sure. The only other possibility is that the vehicle was in fact a 1953 model year, and was sold after jan 1 1954, and some states would fudge the paper work and****le things as the year sold. Which could have been transferred all these years. So the****le might read as a 1954. Which once again does not make it a 54 if it is in fact a 53. DECODE THE VIN. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck.....
I have heard this in chevy trucks as early as 47 but never in a car. but I dont see why if they did it in trucks they wouldn't do it for a car too. You know the diffrence in the 53 from the 54. It could be****led a 53, that some one down the line has put a 54 front sheet metal on. Mine is a 53 with a 54 grille put on the 53 fenders.
thanks for the answers, I was not thinking fast enought to get the vin, but i will call him for it and check it out. I think the sheemetal swap is likely. its been lightly modded already.
