53 Buick Series identification help?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Action Girl, Nov 17, 2008.

  1. Hey Gang!

My hubby's 53 Buick Special needs a clutch. We're trying to order the parts that we need, but we have no idea what the series number of this car is, and don't know where to find it. I don't know jack about Buicks, and he doesn't know anything about old cars so I feel like a babe in the woods here.

Is it on a body tag somewhere? Is there a magic decoder ring? Help a sister out?

    It's a 4-door, straight 8, 3 on the tree if that helps.

P.S... I hope everyone is well!!!

In 1953, straight 8 is a model 40. Also known as a Special. Which the place you're ordering from should have been able to figure out...oh well...

  3. Body tag on the firewall someplace should tell you it's a 40-series, the Special was always a 40-series.. forget what I edited out, misread my book. Also I need to type faster....

  4. Thanks so much... my hubby found a link on buicks.net that confirms exactly what you both said. Now we can order the parts and get this beast back on the road.

And... we found the tag on the side of the cowl... so we're all set.
