The '53 Cad engine in my '30 Model A coupe is leaking mucho oil from the rear main seal. Can I "string" a new rear main seal in without dropping the crank? If so , what (and how) is used to insert the new seal? Where can I locate new seal, pan gaskets, insertion tool, etc.? Thanks in advance, Krobe
Run down to your local "old book store" or get on EvilBay and find an early Motors® Manual that covers US mfrs in the early 50s. They actually cover this procedure with pictures. There is a tool for this. T-handle on a braided cable (small). good luck dj
i believe there is a tool called chinese fingers( thats what the guys at the parts house around here calls it) that gets the new rear main seal in there. i got all my gaskets from a local parts store all felpro stuff so it should be readily available
If you do a search, you should be able to find some old threads about Cads here on the HAMB, including a discussion about replacing the piece of rope with a lip type seal. Think it was about 3 or 4 years ago...
