I had a step by step deal that someone had given me but i cannot find it now to save my life. If i do find it i will get it to ya. I'm in the dfw area also and ended up using a HotRod Wiring kit to re do my entire 54 and boy am i glad i did cause i found some many wires that were toast once i started pulling them out.

forgot to tell you that hotrod wires is in Garland and has a support system that is second to none. They make it very easy to do and its around 200 bills

Good thread, I'm doing a convert on my 47 Dodge. Pats antique cars article sums it up pretty good

That link helped me out quite a bit when I did my '51. You can pretty much just print it out and take it down to NAPA to buy all the bulbs, etc in one trip. If you're running the generator/regulator from the 265, ignore the bits about the alternator.

I would also second the "rewire it all" suggestion. Once you get in there and start poking around, you are gonna be scared shitless seeing the condition of the old cloth wrap wire. I used the "9+3" kit from Rebel Wire. Worked out well, and the owner seems to have infinite patience with bonehead electrical questions.
