Its the rear gear off a bicycle cut in half, then tacked on the inside. Thanks for noticing!

I wanted to get the lic plate from in front of the grill, so I decided to make a little bracket under the bumper. I was missing any support from the front bumper bolt up to the splash skirt. So I bent a piece of flat I had lying around and tacked it to the top piece of an old chinese socket set case. It turned out ok, kinda rushed it, Would be better with a little bit thicker piece of metal than the case lid was. Not exactly excited about it, but it got it from in front of the grill. It does not help that my plate looks like ****. I am starting to think it wasnt in such a bad spot before.....

So better without the sides on the backing. Still not sold on it, but I can see my grill completely now.

Today was the day to fill the holes in the fender from the turn signals. well the holes are filled, a ton of flap disking and wow I guess I need a tig.? so looks better than it did with the big signals. Would have posted more pics of the progress, but it did not go quite as planned, and taking photos lost importance.

You're making good progress. Seeing that license plate under the bumper reminded me of years ago when we used to run our car club plates under there but suspended by chains so that in case you s****ed over a speed bump or something like that, you had some give there.

Another idea for your front plate, get an original (getting hard to find) or aftermarket '49 Chev front license plate guard. These mounted direct to the bumper (you'd have to drill a couple of holes) and then the plate could be mounted directly to the bumper as well. Just a thought.

    Keep us posted.

SO I am pretty sure I am going with a 4 inch dropped front axle from Sid. And 3 inch blocks in the rear through Sid. Then some bilstein shocks through a guy on the HAMB. And I am thinking some 3 point seatbelts from Julianos. I really want to move the tank, but am not finding anything that is making me sold on doing that right now. Well except the fact that welding in the cab with the tank in it is not a great Idea!

    On the plate

The bracket on my truck is similar to what you built but bends in a U so that it attaches to the back side of the bumper but holds the plate in front of the bumper.
That might be an idea for yours before you move it back up to the stock position.

Installed a choke cable, old one was cut super short and not hooked up. I read on the HAMB that using the the manual choke will make for easier starting when cold. Oh it did for sure. Awesome! Took A load of trash to the dump. Noticed a sound like something flapping against something and smelt a lil rubber burnt smell. Of course the turn signal wire I just had hanging un attached in the fenders. Nope after I figured out my temp guage is working and water/antifreeze under the truck. Oh a busted fan belt. Well made it to the dixieline parking lot after letting the dump have all my fluid. Had just a couple hours earlier taken a fan belt out of the truck that I found under the seat. Called the house, had the wrench for the generator, a pry bar and the fan belt delivered to me in about 30 minutes. Went good until I figured out that being happy with the my new choke and throttle cable isnt always best. Anyways after flooding the carb, and letting it settle. With help from people p***ing by, Especially Steven( who was rad and actually helped!). The truck started up and I rolled home. The best part is I was reading post on HAMB before I left about what people hate about having an old car. Like people saying it always breaks down, ****py gas mileage, unsafe, and people always coming up to you. So I had A little bit of good and bad of that today. I dont really consider the fanbelt a break down. But It got me stuck for a little while. Now the fanbelt experience I had in an 82 camaro at 19 was different. Live and learn. Ever since then I figure that one out quick, my Pops always liked it if you learned from experiences.

Well Found out the heater works. Also that it will drain the battery if left on. Oops. Well only second time since Ive started this project , that I have taken my battery to the Auto parts store for them to charge me up. I am starting to think maybe not the last. Well Also time to invest in a new battery charger. Last one I had, I left in the front yard one to many days, and it finally grew legs and walked off.

Pic attached is the tool I made to make it easier to remove the nut behind dash on Manual choke/throttle cable. Old socket , with a little length of an old pliers I had cut up before for another tool, tacked . Cable can run through middle and u can actually get it behind dash and tighten. Worked awesome for the Choke cable!

Last pic of truck before axle removal. Some pics of removal. Axle headed to Sids. Did bust a cheapy pitman arm puller. Other than that all went smooth, went with the Tech article on Sids website. http://www.droppedaxles.com/TECH_ARTICLES.html#TXTOBJ7D9416E352E1C51

So Im guessing in 3-4 weeks it will all be back together. Planning on doing rewire on it, and the Bilsteins of course, cant wait for it to be back on the road miss it already!

Heres some interior pics. Thinking seatbelts, and turn signal lever . Also, possibly moving Tank from cab. . Other than that everything is in really good shape. I would not mind a little more leg room. SO the tank removal I have heard gives maybe 2 inches.

Things I am doing while waiting for my axle. I started the rewire, with replacing the headlight sockets and turning the parklights into turn signal. I also took that opportunity to paint under the park lights, and I painted the headlight retainer rings. I had the hood latch panel removed, so I painted that also. I also added some metal discs to the rear bed holes. Turned out good, def need gas on my mig or need a tig I guess.

I was going either with black or white lettering and opposite hubcap color. I decided on white lettering. Bought stencils, removed old paint. Primered and painted white. Let dry over night. Placed stencils on the hubcaps, and painted black. Not the best Do***entation, and here is how they turned out.

Talked to Sid today my axle ships tomorrow. So excited. Used the outside of the hubcap decals to put Chevrolet on the hood latch piece. Turned out pretty clean.
