Any help? Got what looks to be a trim code of 204 or 5. However all information I have found no trim code in 53 under like 240 doesn't exist. Body tag for reference. The only trim code for 1011w's was 304-307 My trim code clearly has a 2 to start
I can't read that tag, although it might say 245. If it were mine, I'd patiently soak it with some lacquer thinner or paint stripper, and get the paint off it...they were originally bare unpainted aluminum. Since it's aluminum, you have to be real careful not to mangle it with your cleaning process. I would NOT try to remove the tag, or mess with the rivets at all. here's my list of 53 Chevy trim codes...hope it helps
I appreciate that. I don't intend to tamper with the tag at all, besides trying to soak it. Now that I see the numbers again it's possible it's a 6 or 8
Looking at the pic it looks like 254 to me. Jim’s suggestion sounds good. Tape around it and try not to mess up the rest of the paint. You can also try laying a blank piece of paper over it and using a pencil or a piece of chalk to lift the numbers by lightly rubbing over them.
The GM Heritage center archives vehicle info kit doesn't give the codes but does give the color combos in and out. https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...information-kits/chevrolet/1953-Chevrolet.pdf Scroll down the page a bit.
Looks like your Aluminum Trim tag has been sprayed with undercoating. Thinner, Acetone and even Rubbing Alcohol should take it off
Why does a trim code matter? Are you restoring the car back to original? Match the trim to what the outside body color will end up, and be done with it.
I found this to help some times, look at the paint code, and see what matches,,,. it looks like the 24?on the trim...
