I want to give my engine a luck of paint. It's orange. I can get Chevrolet orange here but not the ford(think it should be tangerine red) will the chevy colour be miles off? Thanks Ian
Ian,according to the book I have the Flathead Ford engine in 1952 and 1953 was either tangerine red or green. HRP
Ford T-bird red might look pretty cool. Might check out POR-15 if you're looking for something durable... I went with this in Ford Dark Blue because I didn't have the space or tools to spray it on; it brushed on and looks nice and glossy and is hard as nails.
If you want the authentic color, check with Bill Hirsch in NJ. he has all kinds of correct engine paint.
Or you could do like Grumpy Jenkins did and paint it black,he was of the mind it helped to throw off heat.
If you want to go on the cheap Chevy orange is close, but if you want it correct as stated above go with Bill Hirsch. He has it in both quarts and rattle cans.
Again, if you want to be close. Tangerine used on the 52-53 flathead is different than the red used by Ford from 55 through 58. Chevrolet orange is too orange and Ford red is too red.
VHT #SP152 is a match. there 2 ford reds - early and late, late is the Ford "red-red" you're referring to. check it out
