Just picked up a 53 F-100 that is missing the engine and trans. I want to build a driver so I have been thinking of a 302/auto or 5speed. What rear ends have you guys put under these? Early bronco? I would like to keep the bolt pattern. Would a later 1980's F-100 rear fit? Looking for some ideas. Going to run dropped springs but that is about all I am going to do to the suspension.

I had a cousin that had a 389 Poncho in a F-100. Very unique and HAMB friendly! I have seen almost every type of engine ever imagined in these trucks.

From what investigating I have done here it seems the 57-72 F-100 is the easiest swap. I will be on the lookout for one with a good highway gear. Any issues with putting a 302 in one of these? Any fitment issues?

67 to I believe 72 or 71 F100 rear axle is a direct bolt in for that truck.

I was just going to say the 57-60 nine inch should bolt right in. I have one for sale, but a bit far from you hahaha. I have a 58 pickup I just picked up I'd like to do a SBF and 5 speed in eventually

  6. I put a '60 F100 rear in my '56. It's basically a slam dunk but the spring pads are wider on the '57 - '60.

57-72 rear on 9''. What gear ratio is yours? 302 fits well. Same for the auto.
Check MidFifty's for parts. They have the engine swap and trans. cross member.
Also check the Ford truck enthuasits site for massive amounts of info.

Found a 66 F-100 rear end in the local yard for 200. Going tomorrow to look at it and find out the ratio. Chris, shipping would be outrageous!! Lol.

The axle in the truck in the yard is a 3:50. I told them I would take it plus the two very nice original mirrors that were on it. They look identical to the factory 53 mirrors.
