Hey guys, We're about ready to tackle the rear suspension on this 53 F100. It's running a camaro front clip. It'll be bagged, so I'm trying to decide the type of rear suspension to use. I'm torn between the 4 link from suicidedoors http://suicidedoors.com/Triangulated4-Link.php, and a cantilevered setup from candospecialties.com https://candospecialties.com/Mercha...Product_Code=CD-4LKWELDCANTI&Category_Code=41. I guess they're 6 of one, half dozen of the other, ones foreward, ones backward??? I like the cando setup, cuz it's a little more trick, but also like the simplicity of the thornbecke 4 link...b does anyone had any thoughts to help me decide. I'm thinking the cantileverd setup might fuck up my exhaust??? Thanks -B
As far as the 4-link goes, a triangulated 4-link would be a great way to go. I'm not bashing CanDo's product, but a reversed 4-link of any type is a horrible way to setup a suspension. Without getting into a novel about why, go to this link, and scroll to the bottom of the page. It explains the many downsides to a reversed 4-link setup:http://www.ridetech.com/techarticles/air4linktechinfo.asp I have used Jason at Suicidedoors.com for many link setups. His quality is always top-notch, with very fair pricing. He will build the link bars to any length that you need. For your situation I would just run a pair of Firestone F9000 Sleeve bags over or behind the axle. The give nice lift(approx 8.5"), and ride nice in the rear of a light vehicle. The double convoluted bags, like a 2500 or 2600 tend to be bouncy in the rear of a light vehicle. The only reason guys run cantilever setups, or mount the bags on the link bars is to get crazy amounts of lift, needed to untuck huge-diameter wheels. But these wouldn't be needed things for a hotrod. Heres a couple pics of the rear of my a sedan. Its bagged, with a 3-link from Suicidedoors, and F9000 bags like I told you about above. One pic dumped, the second at ride height. The will give you an idea of what the bags look like. Hope this helps a little Dan
