Stock Dana 3.92 [works well with AOD], four leafs, long shackles on rear with the front hangers moved to the top of the frame. Tbird IRS waiting for installation this winter.
or JAG IFS is a piece of cake install. they are cheap at wrecking yards, a real nice unit, super easy to install. Do a search here for JAG IFS, there are a bunch of good threads on em. I did one for my 54 F100, sold the truck before finishing though. heaps of pics in it and other threads.
How did you come up with $2200? $300 for dropped axle from www.droppedaxles.com $60 for tie rod drops """""""""""" $350.95 for Posi Dual Flex springs & new u-bolts from www.droppedaxles.com $250 for disc brake kit from Speedway $40 for kingpins from Speedway $1000.95 total I'm not sure what a Toyota box costs but it should be under $1200
$400 Sids drop axle ($300 and $100 core) Mid Fifty Down and forward springs, new shackles, draglink, hardware, $700 power steering kit $689 front brake kit(5/5.5 pattern) $389 sway bar $189 king pins $40 tie rod drops $60 shocks $100 $2567
Well.... I think I've decided on a TCI MII complete front end. I priced everything out and I think it's the way to go for the best ride for the amount of miles I want to put on. Now to decide if I should do the 5 on 5.5 pattern rotors to match the rear and if I should do the drop spindles.
Here's a before and after, very early from my project. First was a really tired set of OEM, and then some down and forward(BB) from Mid-fifty, they work nice and I keep a standard axle and steering. The huge aspect tire still fills up the well, but I plan to change to something a bit smaller...which will lower the truck but 'open' the well. Since then the rear fenders have been widened, and the truck goes to the spring shop this week. I'd shop springs a bit,... locally in Vegas I can get springs made for half the price of a catalog...and they are excatly to my specs. BTW...anyone know if a 54' Dana rear end has the same exact brake setup as the ford nine from 57-72???
Think you have made the right decision. For what it is worth I have had two F100's and would recommend using an IFS instead of a straight axle (both of my trucks were/are IFS). My first F100 I drove approx. 75,000 miles most of which were with an IFS. If you really intend to drive your truck you will be far happier with a mustang II or similar setup. Good luck on your build.
