Haha. Well, if thats what it takes to kill our social networking with one another, I think we will have a long and prosperous friendship then, because the chances of me finding....then using a mickey thompson-log-thingie intake that possibly doesnt even exist in our universe for a mopar bb.... might be a bit slim. BUT...Paris Hilton and honey boo boo both had multiple seasons on their own tv shows....sooooo.....stranger shit has happened....
I wish I had two of every Edelbrock & M/T Ram Log made. One to poop on, and one to cover it up with.., on second thought, I'd sell them. You see how much an M/T 409 Ram Log brings..,DAAAANNNNNGGGG!
Haha. I just did a bit of research on it *cough* *cough* I choked on my taco. Looks like a good ole' weiland tunnel ram fo' dis' guy. its in the budget. I dont feel like paying more for an intake then I did for the whole car. ha ha.
When the tunnel ram is all ready for installing, you can have it hard anodized to make it look magnesium.
Damn those engine combos sound bitchin. I will be watching this thread always love to see another gasser.
Alright, I've just been working on it here and there this week. Not much time to really get much done. Just busy work. Mainly trying to strip it to metal and uncover my problem areas that are going to need more attention. The rear window channel was pretty solid all along the bottom, but the top rail is going to need some minor patching/work. Not to bad for a 60 yr old car I guess.
The rocker was pretty shot, I already knew this and went ahead and grabbed a pair of new rockers. But I thought this "repair" was interesting. Instead of actually fixing this hole, someone just stuffed....probably 2 lbs of body filler in it....no exaggeration. Lol. There was a chunk bigger than my fist that I pulled out...gotta love 70's body work.....
Finished getting all of the front sheet metal off. Going to be getting ready to start cutting the front frame off soon and start fabbing up a new one for the straight axle and new cross member.
Also finished stripping the rear quarters. Its all wet looking bc I wiped it down with metal prep and let it do its work. But slowly and surely making small progress here and there. I also picked up a 20 circuit new wiring harness for it. Didnt figure that was a super important deal, so no real point in taking a pic of it. Lol.
Instead of using 2 x 4 x .125 mild steel for the front stub, use 2 x 3 x .094-.096 chromoly, and save a few pounds. Remember weight is you enemy!
Thanks man! And yes. We will be up there. We went to both of the ware shoals races recently, the rained out one and the rain check race. Had a blast. I thought about that before I bought the 1/8th in. mild box tubing. But I thought about how much weight I was already taking off of the front end by chopping that monster ass-heavy front suspension and boat anchor inner fenders with its air vent system off of there. Those inner fenders are every bit of 45lbs. So I figured a few more lbs wasn't worth the extra bucks. Ill just swiss cheese something to make up the difference. Lol.
Haha. Yeah. Ive seen the gas monkey garage gasser. Love the graphics on the side and the name is perfect. Here is the car that I am using for inspiration. I think its a hamb members car, I cant remember for certain though. But its the color mine will end up being, thats actually my cars original factory color. But I love the stance. If anyone knows who's car this is....lemme know!
I saw that last night! Its a low deck intake too. But I am probably 80% sure im going to use a tunnel ram at this point. Thats a good price on that intake though. Someone will jump on it. Thanks for the lead though man! I appreciate that. But I did bid on some 15x8 aluminum slot wheels for the rear. So those will be in the mail soon enough. I was going to just grab some torque thrust D's, but decided to go with slots instead. For the front wheels, I am going to soda blast the original 14 inch Fenton wheels that are on the car now. I also have a lead on a mopar 400 short block for $250. Probably going to jump on that because its a standard bore block. I also ordered spindles, front brakes and some little misc. Shit last night. Now I just need time to work on the heap.
Have any of you or know of anyone making fiberglass molds of factory body parts or have a good link to someone who has? I am wanting to mold the whole front end together and then trim it and work it to fit so I can run a tilt front end that doesnt weigh 3000 lbs. I figured I would assemble it on the car as good as possible. Bolt it together, lift the whole thing off and set it on saw horses. Then wrap it super tight with shrink wrap. Use the resin and fiberglass sheets to mold it like that. Does that sound viable to any of you guys? Or is there a better way?
Slow going over here in my neck of the woods. Ill be glad once the stripping is all done...at this point, I wish I had just sent it out to be stripped. Haha. This is time consuming at best, a complete and total-messy-pain-in-the-ass at worst. But hey, building cars isn't always "blunts, 40's and bitches" haha. If it were cheap and easy, everyone would be doing it, right? Anyways, hope everyone has a good weekend. Im gonna try to get more done on my heap. Oh! I've been pondering names over with my pop. So far we have "the surfing bird" and "the hillbilly deluxe" as potentials. But anyways, thats all I've got today. Back to work!
Got the door stripped today. Found one small spot that is gonna need a small patch. Nothing major. Going to fill all the trim holes too. But thats for another day. Going to take the kids to the pumpkin patch and the wife out to eat now.

GREAT video....but what the hell are the boards behind the burnouts for ? Some sort of flung melted rubber art maybe ? I've never seen that before.....but then again, I am often under a rock somewhere....so who knows ??
Man we need to talk I have been pondering making a glass front on mine. Rich Venza used to be on the HAMB and he lives somewhere near me. He made glass cars for years. We could probably talk him into schooling us.
Might have to do that. I've done a little reading, some say you need to make a plaster mold of the fender, then fiberglass the inside of that to get it right. I dunno. Seems like there would be an easier way than that. I cant imagine putting 100lbs of plaster on a flimsy fender would be good for keeping dimensions right. But then again, I dont know my ass from a coconut when it comes to making fiberglass molds. Lol. If you ever get a hold of that guy that knows his stuff, lemme know. I will keep on researching it a little bit. Im pretty determined to make it happen one way or another.
Ive been doing a little reading on www.fibreglast.com and am learning alot about making a mold and all that blah blah stuff. But in the mean time ordered some slicks today so I can get the rears radiused and the tires fitted the right way and get that out of the way so I can start on my front clip. I also got my slots in the mail and I bought a new battery for my jeep trail rig. My winch killed the old one finally. Lol.
I remember old J.C. Whitney catalogs from the 60's and 70's listed fiberglass replacement fenders for a lot of cars, good for midwest cars since the glass won't corrode from road salt like metal.Sure would be cool if we knew where the molds went
Those are such frumpy old grandma cars in stock form. I'd call it something like "Grandma Gasser" or "Grandma's got Gas".
