So I finally got my car the other day... now the fun begins. First off I notice the hood pops toward the rear. I can push it down flush but it ends upo lifting up again. Is there an adjustment or is this a sign of worn out hood hinges?
Before you even start go on ebay and put this in search:1952 Ford Shop Manual, they are now available in book or CD around $30.Contact Retro Jim here and send him a pm,He can hook you up with the 1949-59 Ford parts CD for under $10 which shows all the part numbers and exploded views of the whole car section by section. The Shop Manual covers 1952-54 Fords and shows you how to do almost everything with a lot of pictures, there are several adjustments regarding your hood also these hinges can bend or break if they bind in the least so make it a habit to lube them monthly, cause replacements don't come cheap!
not to hi-jack the thread but has anyone ever used different hood hinges from other year fords? or any other car they modified to fit? thanks.
Since the vents and hinges on these Fords are one unit fabricating another hinge to work would be a nightmare, for about $250 you could use the Auto-Loc tilt-hood kit which is cool, I saw it on a '54 Ford pickup the hoods slides forward then tilts toward the front.
mac's, concours, and C & G sell them don't mess with the , they were that way new, got my first 53 in 1958. Have two vickys now, got new bolts and springs from macs
definatly get the manual its like the bible for our cars! it entails all about the hood adjustment 25.00 is nothing well worth the investment. The adjustments itself would probably cover this whole page.
Hmm... it seems that I'm not the only one with bent hood hinges. My hinges let the hood up fine I guess but I've never had a car older than 7yrs before. I am quite sure that they are bent since the p***enger side will dig into the fender if I lift it too much. I found this out on day one of owning the car. It made me want to cry.
New to the group and new owner of the 53 Ford. Parts suppliers... Macs, concours, C&G ? websites or contact info?
my dad used the new small gas shocks on his MG. They work pretty good and those hoods a long. He made brackets to hold the hood shocks. I'm suprised no one has used these on there hoods. my trunk has a problem at the top, closer to the window, of staying down I have to push it down to keep it flush.
My right side hinge was broken when I got the car, so now I have to use a prop rod. I was thinking about just taking the hood off until I can afford something else.
thats what im going to do. one of mine broke, so im just gonna run it without one until it get replaced.
