I have a 53 Coupe and it’s missing some pieces. I found local a 53 Merc 2 door sedan parts car that has the pieces I am missing and am also thinking about getting some other pieces to have as extras. My questions are, will the following 53 Merc pieces bolt onto my 53 coupe: Front bench seat Doors/wing windows Rear end/rear springs Front suspension/coil springs Thank you!
The upper and lower control arms as well as the uprights are interchangeable between the 1949-53 Ford and 1952-53 Mercury. The front bench seat will also bold in. The doors I have never tried doing but both cars were built on the same Ford platform so I would think they will bolt up but different body lines. All you can do is try one and see. Does the Merc parts car have any dealer options inside or out?
It appears to be just the standard sedan. It was an automatic, no clutch pedal. Inside is pretty much gutted except for the seat, dash and column. There is no trim on it so it is hard to tell what options it came with. I’m unsure what motor was in it, but whatever it was appears to have been factory.
1953 was the last year for kingpin suspension rockauto.com still carries new ones about $60 a set of new Ford Aerostar springs run about $62 a pair (MOOG CC850) 1952-56 shocks are the same what else would you want from the front suspension ? The rear end will interchange if it is a Merc-O-Matic bonus points better ratio for highway cruising. Front bench seat should work fine too. As far as windows and doors take a lot of measurements to compare,Fords look cool with a Merc front clip also 1952-54 Ford and Merc hood hinges interchange always a bonus if they are good.
