I was going to order some stainless steel brake lines for my 53 merc from this place cl***ic tubing and he didnt have a pattern for a 53 merc but had for 1 a 53 ford and said they were 2 diff part numbers. Does anyone know if there would be a diffrence in the 2 and what would the diffrence be? I would think they are the same tho just wwant to make sure

the Mercury has a longer wheelbase so if you got the Ford kit you probrobly have to strech some of the lines to make them fit. :D

  10. Buy some stainless line and make your own.

Go to the parts store, buy some lengths of straight line, and bend them yourself. You can bend them by hand, or use a tool (which is like $10), or if your crafty, an ***ortment of round objects will help you. pre-bent lines are expensive, do it yourself and save an ***load

Yeah fatty, these guys are right, most good parts houses have the lines in various lengths if flaring the ends are what you are trying to stay away from. You can do it yourself for a fraction of what the prebent kit, that isn't even right for your application, will cost you.

That kit is also gonna take money away from your Desoto grille fund. :D

Also, I'd buy a GOOD double flaring tool & line bender. They're a good investment, unless of course this is the last car you ever plan on building.

I thought about just getting some straight line, but I thought the kit was a decent price for about 170 for prebent stainless, also it prolly will be alot of time being saved. So can I get a final answer if any of them would work. a 2dr ford coupe,a 4dr merc or ford, or a ford, merc convertable?

Also "CHOPMERC" recomended this place said it worked great for him

Dude, it won't work. It doesn't take long to bend these lines. You can do the whole car in an afternoon. I've had to redo 3/4 of the brake lines in my '57, it's not difficult. $170 is a ****load of cash. I can almost promise you that you will be able to do it for half of that if you go the do-it-yourself route

Fatty, lets see if we can clear this up! All the Mercs ch***is are 4" longer than the Ford ch***is therefore some of the lines for the Ford kit will be too short. (probably the lines from the master cylinder to the rear end)

Is the wheel base different for the 53 mercs between 4 doors and 2 doors?, I think it's 118" for all the body styles. Any 53 merc line kit should do the job

have you tried to call them up to Ask?

how about looking up the wheelbase of your Merc and compare that with what this place has in stock?

right now you have too many cooks in the kitchen... go to the source, if they cant help you, you have options on this thread.

personaly, id bend my own... just follow the curves from your old lines.

IMO - buying tools to bend your own lines properly is a good investment... especially if you want to build rathotrodskuztumz.
